This is my dads old 25-06 Savage. I got it out the other day and never noticed this notch before. Any clue?

That's probably it. Now I feel dumb. He probably took it out to accommodate that giant fricking red field ultimate illuminater he put on when I was a kid. Thing was like a telescope.
I wonder if I can find another front sight?

It's left handed.....But yeah I was thinking about it. And an old 16 gauge crack barrel. Want a nice bolt action .22 for my nephews and my daughter to learn on.

Shouldn't be hard to find. That looks like a standard dovetail so you should have some options. Look at midwayusa.com they have tons of shite.
Larry thanks you for your business.

Note that you don't have to put a sight in the groove. You can buy a blank to put in slot. It would just be a flat piece of metal.
