Anyone have experience with fishing the surf at GI late September? I know earlier is better but I'm scheduling around a friend's birthday. Any idea what to expect? Are we going to get wiped out?

We are supposed to go the 3rd weekend in Sept. I'm planning to yak the pass for bull reds. Last year in Oct. There were still night trout by the bridges and bulls by the beaches.

You should find fish in Sept.

Not sure about September. Last year we went in August and it was a slow bite and we didn't catch many in the surf. This year we went mid July and caught alot more than last year. I think we are going to shoot for June next year.

Have done very well in the surf in September and October. The water clarity is usually better as well. Those 11.5 inch trout I catch in May through July are now over 12 inches.

Crabbing can be great also
