Fished Monday and Tuesday on Fourchon beach. 30 trout Monday, limit Tuesday. Not huge fish. Nice 14-16 inch trout and a bunch of throw backs. All on soft plastic and DOA shrimp. Near slick calm Monday and Tuesday. Slept in this AM. Sitting on the swing now and conditions have changed. Wind blowing like a mofo out the NW.

The wind has laid. Surf is flat calm. Going try them again tomorrow morning. Crabs are running. Only 3 traps out 4 dozen crabs on 24 hour soak.

I've always used the Mirrolure top dogs/she dog/top dog Jr or the Rapala skitter walks. My go-to colors have been the bone colored one, the orange belly/yellow sides/blue top one, and the orange belly/black top one. I have a ton of other colors but never even bother trying them out.

Drove down elmers this morning conditions looked great. Couldn't catch shite, except every trash fish the the gulf. Coastal was out of shrimp and croakers. fished everything in my box, my buddy too. 2 keeper specs, countless sailcats (voodoo shrimp are too lifelike), needlefish snagged on topwater, bluefish, rat reds, a few throwback specs.

Most of this was on the front side, about halfway down. Tried the pass, but the wind started howling.

Sand was very soft, put that shite in 4wd and don't stop. Call baitshops on way down if you want bait.

Oh, water was pretty clean. Dark green, could almost see my ankles in thigh deep water.

Well we made it out to elmers with the sunrise and began throwing mirrorlures with no success, moved to vudu shrimp and started catching small trout. Decided to throw live shrimp under a popping cork and caught a bunch of sail cats. Switched back to vudu and struck out. Just now leaving with nothing.

Nice to know it's not just me. I couldn't understand it yesterday, other than being late in the season, conditions looked great on paper and in person. This whole year has just been off down there.

That's like what, 3 years now? 4? You can sure frick up some gaff-tops right now though!

I really thought this would be a great year with all the 11.5 inch trout last year. There is a ton of life in the water, but keeper trout are hard to come by.

Last year was the same way, seems by late summer trout are tough to come by. I've got a weekend booked on the island towards the end of August. Expecations for fishing aren't really high though, mainly hoping to gig some flounder and soak some crab traps.

I'm going this weekend to help with a rodeo. If nothing else I'll come come with a couple ice chests of crabs and a sun-burn.

If you can get out to the close rigs you can bring home some groceries. If it is calm enough on Sunday that is my plan.

Been fishing Elmer's and GI beaches all week. Monday caught around 40 on top dawgs and long As, nothing looked big enough to keep. Probably had a few pinching tail but wasn't worth the trouble. Tuesday first 2 throws had 14" trout on top, then they moved and I had crabs piling up on line so I filled ice chest with crabs. Yesterday I slept in and started rigging stuff for this weekend. Went out yesterday afternoon and caught 6 real quick, then nothing but hardheads. Today, Elmer's again, water was murky, 2 keepers and a slot red, then sails, ladyfish and bluefish. It's worth noting that if you get to Elmer's early enough, down towards pass there have been big schools of bull reds coming thru area, but there's a lot of small pods working south side of first bar, you can see them in the waves when sun gets up. They are in there gourging on the crabs. All the decent trout reports I've gotten this week were from Venice or fourchon

Great update. I'm not killing myself to get down there early. Thanks man. We'll bring some heavier stuff and try to get these guys on some reds.

We also fished this past Monday at Fourchon. Forgot to update.

Started at the jetties at Belle Pass and worked our way to the Barges and then back to the jetties again. Most of the keeper fish were caught near the jetties.

Ended up with about 20 keeper trout and a few white troute. Caught on a variety of popping corks, swim baits, and topwater. Talked to another boat at the landing that faired much better by staying at the barges the entire day.

The big Bull reds are definitely at Fourchon as well. They kept hitting our light tackle artificials. Fun to catch but takes time away from gong after the trout as most of them were 38-42 inches long.
