I just got new hummingbird helix 7 si/di on my bass boat so I could have them networked together. I also got the lake master plus cards to go with them. Now apparently I have to update my new units so they'll be compatible with the cards?

Has anyone done this before and if so how long does it take? Hoping to go tomorrow am. Tia

I updated a Helix 9 and it didn't take long at all. If I recall correctly:
Download the update file (probably have to register you device)
Load it onto a SD card
Insert chip into unit
Turn unit on
???
Profit

Beautiful, thanks

I take it the sd card has to be new with nothing on it?

How do you like the unit?

I did make sure to use a clean, formatted card. Not sure it matters though because the unit will recognize the update automatically. Have you ever used Hummingbird PC? Once you register, you can keep track of all you units and software changes and some other information.

Came with the boat. I like it a lot, not that I really know how to use it or will ever maximize it's potential. There was a thread a couple week back that was talking about Helix units. Can try a search for it.

Thanks a ton, I just got on there to do it and there were 2 updates. I did the most recent and when I plugged it in to my unit it said I was already running that so no updates required.

If there are two updates I guess I was right in choosing the most recent one?

Definitely go with the latest update. Sounds like she's ready to go.
Good luck tomorrow and let us know how it performs.

There are several posters that are much more knowledgeable than I. They should be able help you if you have more questions. Just don't ask Seapickle for a nav card.

Congratulations on your purchase. One thing you might consider in the future would be to monitor some of the fishing boards to see if there are any problems with the updates before you install them in the future.

Sometimes there are issues, and they an create havoc in a unit that was working fine before.

What the hell? Please explain. My cards aren't made for a Hummingbird anyway

That's why. Didn't mean to offend you by any means. You are good people and recently helped me a lot. I should have explained what I meant.

no offense taken. I just couldn't put my finger on a situation that would have caused an issue
