I will update with the story later tonight! It's a really funny/awesome story!

Ok sorry such a late update it's been crazy. Anyway a buddy and me decided to head out and make a morning hunt on christmas eve...well we stayed up all night and left at 3 am with no sleep. It's about a 2 hour 15 minute drive to our family land near Vicksburg. We got there and I sent him to a lockon in a bottom with a lot of oaks and a stream, it's probably the prettiest spot on our property. I hunt it about 90 percent of the time, but anyway I decided to hunt a ladder stand that's probably 100 yards off the highway. It's a small food plot maybe 70x20 yards with tons of cedars around it. Well I have to walk through it to get to the bottom where I sent my buddy and I've seen tons of scrapes and rubs popping up in and around it. I decide to hunt it and I'm sitting there and at 7:45ish I see a deer moving through the trees like it's about to step out in the end of the plot. Well it never pops out so I look through my scope and see this buck looking all around and smelling. I knew it was a good buck and kept thinking just take 4 more steps. Well after probably 5 minutes he takes 2 steps and starts smelling. Well long story short he's hung up right around where my buddy walked to the bottom at. I'm not sure if thats why, but anyway he gets real flinchy and starts stomping his foot. I find a opening right on the front shoulder and I think I can squeeze a shot through there before he takes off. So I squeeze a shot off with my 7 mag shooting 160 grain barnes ttsx. Well I see him run and he looks hit, but I wasn't sure. I txt my buddy and he says he has deer all over him so he hangs tight. I call another buddy talking how nervous I was and just to pass the time before I go check for blood. I wait 30 minutes and meet my buddy where I shot at. Well I see this:

My heart sinks immediately sinks, but my buddy takes about 5 steps where the deer went and says "no man you got him he's hit". We find chunky brownish red blood. I smell it and it doesn't really smell like gut maybe liver. I immediately say I don't want to look any further lets back out. We back out and go eat and I call a buddy who has a blood dog who happened to be going to his camp but was just leaving his house. He's about 2.5 hours away which was perfect. We dick around for a few hours, the whole time I'm a nervous wreck, and we meet my friend with a blood dog at our property 4 hours after the shot. Well we get the dog on trail and immediately he goes the way the deer went and we start finding big spots of blood. He's pouring and my friend with the dog says," Dylan don't worry we're going to find this deer." Anyway the dog goes down a huge steep bottom crosses a stream and theres my deer!!! We all high five and take pics and field dress the deer and drag it out which took forever and was rough dragging him out that bottom. We get him out and guess what..?? Since we were only making a morning hunt we decided to take his toyota corolla and save gas. Well we have to decide how to take this 200 pound stinky rutting buck home in it. Well we hog tie it so his hoofs dont scratch the seats up and shove the deer in the back seat! The looks we got driving down the road was hilarious!!! anyway awesome story with good friends to get the christmas eve buck that I've been after all year!! He was all scarred up with a eye gouged out 17" wide 24 and 22.5" main beams and lots of mass. He was 6-6.5 and scored 135.75".

That's a fine deer! Looks like it took a while to recover him.

Nope he was dead when we found him. I just posted that to show that he took a tine to the eye recently fighting. Tonight before bed I'll post the story. I bet no one will guess how much he scores. I was shocked when I got the tape on him!

I rough scored him at 135.75" my taxidermist did a couple mass measurements and main beams and hasn't completely scored him yet, but has him at 135" guessing off just his mass, main beams, and spread measurement. One of his main beams was right at 24" long. The other was around 22.5". I could care less about his score honestly though. He was aged to be around 6.5 years old and thats what I'm most proud of shooting a mature buck on a 100 acre private track you manage yourself with people hunting all around you.

Dang the mass !! If he would've had some dog catchers that amounted to anything he would've gone in the high 140's easily. Do you have pic's of him last year?I wonder if he was a better deer last year?

No pics from last year, but Yep his mass is crazy! I wish he had the tine length and he'd be a 140" 8 point! Oh well I'm tickled over him. He's all scarred up from fighting, I'm hoping whatever he's been fighting is as big or bigger.

If he is cut up from fighting, there has to be a couple more his size in the hood. Nice buck.

Deer probably did not come from your property. He could have come from anywhere. This is what I love and hate about the rut. A big buck can pop up from anywhere but he can also leave your property.
