Any of you ladies got a go-to fair chase guide service either in Texas or the mid-west that doesn't cost your first born? Preferably elk and/or whitetail. Is it unreasonable to expect to get a 4 day all inclusive trip for 3k?

Eta, this year or next?

Elk in 4 days? Any guide service worth a darn for Elk is not going to be cheap and certainly not cheap for 4 days with a realistic shot at something fair chase.

Rifle for sure. I've never done it before so I'd prefer to have a guide. I am open to something this year but was trying to plan for next

I hunt with 180 Outdoors yearly. I think their all inclusive rifle hunts are 3500 for 5 days. They have thousands of acres leased throughout the southeast...here are some of the ones we hunting this year.

If you interested I can email you their contact info.

Give Lonnie Walker Outdoors a call. Great guy and will put you on game... he can do high or low fence for a variety of species (Texas)

There are lots of very good over the counter tag opportunities for backcountry hunting. Not sure how hard you're willing to work but its perfectly doable. I've been off the mountains for a few years after breaking my pelvis but I plan on returning 2017.

I would take your $3k and buy some nice glass and some gear. Then start applying for tags. You get your money back if you don't draw so if you're ok with tying up a few thousand with a fixed cost of about $500-700 you can have lots of chances to draw.

You get some of your money back. I've only researched elk tags but in Colorado and New Mexico you get some money back. I want to say they will keep the price of a hunting license or something like that. We are planning a trip for next year and we just decided to do OTC in Colorado. Joined groups on FB and plenty of people are killing 4x4's and 5x5's DIY. I'd rather OTC than wait 10 years of putting in for a draw to kill a monster but thats just me.

Of course but if you're buying a license to hunt anyway you may as well put in for a lottery tag. I've been putting in for the past few years even though I couldn't hunt just to retain my bonus points. You can keep up your points without being entered into the draw.

There are lots and lots of ways to do these hunts, with over the counter tags being the most economical.

Last time I did the the math my fixed final cost was around $500/year just to keep my name in the hat. Upfront cost of about $4500. Give or take. I pay someone else apply so these numbers may be off.

I agree with you 100% on the OTC elk tags in CO. It's good hunt but has the potential to be an excellent hunt if are able to cover a lot of ground and be uncomfortable. If I were only going to do one, that would be the one. Just don't do what I did and put a bull down 9 miles from the truck.

$3K won't get you very far for elk unless looking to fill the freezer with a couple of cow tags.

Whitetail is definitely a possibility at $3K.

Anybody ever deal with no mercy outfitters out of Oklahoma?

No mercy hunting

Looks like you can get a throphy, a full curl ram and a hog for $3,700 all inclusive for 6 days.
