Good 9mm pistol in the $5-600 range suggestions?
Posted by The Mick on 5/3/13 at 7:56 am00
All of these are rated pretty high. Im a beginner but plan to hit the range and start getting comfortable with the handgun.
Cabelas
Ive heard of Glock, S&W, etc.. this other brand Springfield Armory looks highly rated. What do you know about this brand?
Any suggestions/advice appreciated.
This will be used for home defense. I have a 5-shot .357 Taurus revolver but Im thinking I need something with more shots and extra clip. (hopefully I never have to use it but 5 shots than manual reload seems like a nightmare).

Uh oh.... did I say that wrong?
Magazine, not a clip

I have no idea what full size means tbh
Full size gun, as compared to a mid size or compact. I am guessing you dont want a compact because of how many rounds your are looking for(over 5). Is it just going to sit in your night stand or do you plan to carry?

First things first. As a dedicated OB wannabe I have to tell you it is called a magazine not a clip.
As far as the pistols I have a Glock 19 and a Springfield XD. Both are awesome pistols. The XD fits my hand a bit better than any pistol I have ever picked up. You cannot go wrong with either. One advantage of the Glock 19 is that you can also use Glock 17 magazines to get a few more rounds into the pistol.

Can't go wrong with any of those choices. Personally, I don't like the Springfield as a polymer platform.
M&P I think is the best choice, but a Glock is easier to learn. They really are idiot guns. Just point and shoot and they break down in two steps.

If you have around 400 bucks, take a class and can shoot worth a shite then yes.
Actually I take that back. If you aren't mentally retarded you should be able to pass the shooting part.
With that being said, some dumb annoying count failed in my class. First ever.

I have two Springfield's. An XDs in .45 and an XDM in .40. I enjoy shooting both and have had no problems out of either one. I've also shot an XD in 9mm and it was just as enjoyable to shoot.
If you are looking for something smaller to carry and are dead set on 9mm, I believe Springfield is releasing their XDs chambered in 9mm.
Best advice is to shoot a few different ones, if you have access to them, and make your own decisions.

G19 or Smith M&P
I just do not like the rubber on the Smith M&P.
Major mistake. Cheap feature that Smith needs to improve
