1. Use spray sunscreen on your feet and hands, (always get the most burned)
2. If you pull up to schooling bait, grab the cast net and give it hell
3. cast the sabiki rigs under the platform deep as you can (will catch best bait)
4. once you have bait, dig around in the livewell to keep the fish stirred up (alive)
5. ask the captain to adjust the trim tabs frequently to insure a quality ride
6. if/when a fish is hooked, back the boat down close to the rig to help w/ the fight
7. once the fish comes up, always be the first to grab the gaff
All of this will show that you're trying to be as considerate as possible

Don't do any of this and just do what your captain or deckhand tells you to do. Just act eager to fish and learn and they will notice and give you stuff to do. Captains hate it when you just start grabbing gaffs and all kind of other shite if you've never fished with them before.

Also, If you make your first tuna catch and they smear the blood on you, don't jump in the water to clean yourself off
I did this and looking back, probably wasn't too smart

Interestingly enough I did not get blood smeared on my first tuna, deer, or hog.
No one wanted to push their luck I suppose.

Kids are usually better at it than the adults. Do you have any reason to believe he will get sea sick? Car sickness, etc.? If not, I wouldn't drug him up just cause.
Day trips out of Venice ought to be fine for him. I'd imagine he'd be super pumped about being offshore w his Dad. Take him if you can.....memories man!!

And what's with the bananas? Never heard that one.
Posted on 5/26/15 at 4:06 pm to TU Rob
I've heard of bananas being bad luck on a boat, but haven't heard anything about spray sunscreen.
My guess would be that it gets all over the place and mists into the bait wells.

Bananas have long been considered bad luck on any vessel.

Bananas are bad mojo on a boat going offshore. Didn't see bean bags. Maybe that's too much just for a Snapper trip but they are nice when making a tuna run.
