I'm pretty angry at the turkey's this year. Didn't get to hunt a single time last year. Not so this year.

I'm thinking they are gonna start early this year with the warmer winter, anyone else? My season usually seems to end a little early I'm hoping it starts hot and stays that way.

Woolum or Witts Springs end of the creek? My folks and most of my family up near there. Good arse fishing over on Rumley south of Marshall. Find some kickass fossils right off 65 too.

No. Breeding activity is focused around daylight length, not temperature.

i'm hardly ever up there in the winter too damn cold for me, the adjoining landowners shoot a lot of deer though. i'd rather hunt turkeys in the spring but we are just now figuring out where they are spending time, and when

That's odd, neither effect me very much...

I wouldn't even bother. With the late freeze and ice storm 2 or so weeks ago, the turkey population is way down. Most of the biologists in the area agree 75-85% of the turkeys died. I think everyone should just fish this Spring.

Yes. But gobbling is much more dependent on the weather. And warm sunny days in Feb will get them gobbling early, even if the breeding is still on the photo period schedule.

Well, while that's true, 3 crappy mornings will shut them right back down. I heard turkeys gobble several times this year during deer season on good cold crisp mornings. Every day is different, even during the peak breeding season. Lots of factors weigh in to gobbling activity, but the best hunting only happens towards the end of the breeding season, when the gobblers are alone for most of the day. Then they become very killable.
