Geothermal hypothetical question: cooling pool water

If you have a shallow body of water (typical 25,000G swimming pool), could you use the earth to naturally cool the water?
In other words, could you do closed-loop geothermal and just run a pipe 200-400' down and circulate the water through it?
I know they make chillers for this purpose, but this idea came to me, IDK if it would work.

Yep. It would work well.
Eta: that's how some people cool their houses.

It should work quite well. You could also pipe the water through a Yeti.

I kinda think it would, too.
Run the 95degree water down into 78 degree earth, maybe come out with 85?
Just would need a pump, or use the pool's existing pump.

I looked hard at geothermal for the house, but honestly, it was more trouble than it was worth. I would have needed like 8 wells.
Open loop is cake, though.

Just figure out how much pipe you're going to run and call the pump manufacturer and find out if it can handle it.

Yeah, I gotta do some calculating.
How long would it take to circulate the water through it?
Would the extra energy cost be worth it?
How close would the pipe have to be to the water source?
I'm only looking to get an 7-9 degree differential.

Well if your pump is running anyway than it shouldn't cost much of anything to operate. I'm not familiar with how you go about putting in the pipe loops or how much it costs.
A 10 degree differential should be easy.

I would imagine this would be costly...

frick that, throw your yeti in the pool.

Yep, only like 200-250'. I can't remember for sure.
I need an engineer to run the numbers so I don't end with something that may work, but at 3x the cost.

The whole pool would ice up!

Figure out how big your pool is, take a temp reading of the water on a hot shitty day, and post it. Somebody is bored enough at work to figure all that out.

About 25,500. Air is 95, water is 92.
It will go up some by this afternoon.

200' deep seems excessive... You are going to need a pump with some arse behind it to overcome that head pressure.
Probably be better off buying a heat exchanger and running your pool water through a cooler.
Other cheaper solutions are to get the lightest color liner made, plant some shade trees. Circulate water more often.

pool chiller
I know you said you were aware of chillers made for this purpose. Just wanted to say I've got one of these - they work great and are relatively inexpensive.

Yeah, that's the one I was looking at.
I figure about $3500-3800 installed.
