Was in Georgia last weekend helping my Father-in-law in his backyard when these two beauties came crawling out....

I think they are both rat snakes believe it or not. The darker one had the same markings but he was much darker. Pattern and bellies were the same

We used to kill "chicken snakes" in our hen house as kids in desoto parish that were black like that. Looking back...I think they were some sort of rat snake. We killed one once that was prolly 6 feet long and had 3 chicken eggs in it. We cut them out, washed them off, and put them in the egg bucket and never told momma.

It did not look like any black racer I've ever seen. The black racers I have caught in Mississippi were jet black with no patterns and had more of a baby blue belly

My GSP killed a black rat snake (pic 1) last week. Looked just like that. Bastard was near my chicken coup. Didn't stand a chance against ol'Durin.

That's what I was thinking, but that shape...

Was the body shaped like a loaf of bread, or basically round? That's the best indicator really.
