Generator for Tailgating/Bow-fishing
Posted by kennahbra on 7/21/16 at 12:33 pm00
I am in the market for a small lightweight and quiet generator for lsu tailgating and bow fishing, I want one to power 6 led lights on the front of a boat and to be able to power a tv and fan for tailgates, Anyone know appox what size wattage I need and can recommend some good brands? The hondas seem to be a little pricey.

The quiet ones are Honda, Yamaha, and Generac. Realistically, you'd only need like a 1000w for those things

For 6 LEDs in a boat you can probably just use a couple deep cycle batteries. Buddy of mine runs a charter and has ditched his generator (Honda 6000 i believe)for batteries after switching to LEDs.
If you want quiet, either a Honda, Yamaha, or a Chinese knock-off of either of those is what you are looking for.

depending on the fan size, a 1000w invertor style generator is all you really need.
The hondas are the best and quietest, but kipors are cheaper and good. yamahas and generac invertor styles as well
I ran a kipor for everything you mentioned and then some for 7 years until a got a bigger honda. that was 5 years ago, it has been used maybe 3 times since, but still cranks quickly everytime

What's the wattage on the LEDs?

was looking at 1000 lumens, i think they are only 75 watts a piece. nothing like a halogen

they are 19....75 is the output equal to the lumens. looked at wrong number

So 19 watt LEDs?

yes. I was more concerned about running the fan on gamedays than the lights in the boat but from reading everyones responses sounds like 1000 watts will be enough juice. probably will spring for the honda

Always go bigger on the generator. I have a ryobi 2200 from home depot. Bout 3 years old and haven't had a problem. I use it for vote fishing, tailgating, camping, etc. $ 600

I run 8 27 watt LEDs off a battery for bowfishing. Never came close to running out of juice.
I have two Honda 2000 watt. I can link them together for 4000 watts they are ridiculously quiet and pretty much always start on the 1st or 2nd pull.
Plus the it's really easy to drain the gas off the carburetor to keep it from gumming up.

After two weeks of asking around for advice, watching youtube videos, and reading reviews i went ahead and ordered the Honda 1000 watt. Hopefully this thing will be as quiet and as worry free as everyone says. Cheapest price I found was $786 shipped to the door. Thanks for the advice and see ya'll in lot 408 this football season

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by it. It's also much easier to lug around than a bigger one. You're not gonna be running a welding machine off of it, but they can power more than you think
