Just took a trip to the attic after feeling my hot water coming through the faucet be extremely cold and then finally heating up. Had some Foam noodle pipe insulation looking stuff so I started to put it on all of the exposed copper in and around my water heater. Is it ok to put it on all of the copper pipes up there or is it best if I do that? If so, I can pick up some more insulation and make a project out of it.
It's 37* in my attic BTW.

no problem doing that, it'll help all the time. Will make your water at the tap hotter.

I insulate ALL water supply pipes (both hot and cold).

When it's 117.5 freakin' degrees in the summer, the damn "cold" water side is hot as hell coming out of copper pipes...and it takes running about a million gallons of water to get the temperature down to luke-warm.

Insulating the cold-water pipes solves that summertime nightmare.

It's also one heck of an added layer of security during occasional freezes.

Looking at doing that now and saw Water heater blanket/wraps too. Might get that while I'm at it.

I have all exposed pipes insulated and a water heater wrap - it does make a difference.

Only if the water heater is outside. If inside, I don't think would worry about it. Those things have some serious closed foam insulation between the tank and the exterior sheet metal shell.

Eh. Oh well. It's already on its way via amazon.

It was 37 in the attic. I'm sure it could use SOME help.

I would recommend insulating both the inlet and the outlet pipes to the water heater, as both conduct heat away from the hot water and cause it to run more (you can feel that they are hot, so they are losing heat to the atmosphere)...

I also recommend a water heater blanket, but be sure not to block the air intake or exhaust if it is gas fueled heater....

Thanks. It's electric. Everything will be here Friday as far as pipe insulation and heater blanket. Is there anything else I should be looking for?
How about the attic door covers?

if the attic door is inside, I think weatherstripping around it is important...

also found some serious air leaks underneath my bathroom sinks where pipes come through the wall..
