But it is. It's not even debatable.

You hit any crab traps tied to logs?

Good, so you weren't trespassing on my place.

Crab traps have to have floats, no matter what. If what you are saying is true, which I doubt that it is, you're breaking the law.

Gators ate them. I have to have floats on private waters? I can't just tie them to a tree on my property? Shouldn't be anyone around to run into them unless they are breaking the law. So who's ate fault, me or you in that case? I can claim recreational immunity.

I can't understand how people are angry they can't trespass on private property.

We've been looking into an automated gate that charges $25 for access to our canals. Only fair considering it IS our property

Pretty awful law if you can gate a waterway that's easily accessible by the public

What?

We have a pond on our (private) property that is easily accessible from a public road. Why would it be OK to force public access to my property?

Not what I was referring to. Your lake is on private property that doesn't connect to any other waterways.

Similar concept, considering landowners also own the canals.

A canal linked to a public waterway? No way in hell that should be gated.

Do you also have a problem with gated private roads that are located off of a public highway?

Roads are now the same as waterways? Do you typically fish from your vehicle or participate in any other recreational activities while inside your vehicle?

Only if you are above the saltwater line.

Sounds like a dumb law (I'm guessing LA is full of them) that was pushed through by large corporations.

I really can see both sides of the argument since I don't have a dog in the fight. It does kind of lean, to me, though, toward the notion that these private property canals linked to a public waterway are about the same thing as your driveway linked to a public road. That driveway is your private property, not open to public use without your permission?
