Anyone have any experience with them? Are they almost a necessity these days with the ethanol fuel?

Parker Racor makes the best and these days, id absolutely have one. They're inexpensive, easy to install, and when sized properly they work great.

My boat came with one. if you do not have one I suggest adding it. I change it yearly and its about $25 for the larger Yamaha one.

Wish I could meet the idiots from Nautic Star who installed mine...they were either a midget or had the longest arms in the world.

They are cheap insurance and a once a year maintenance item for me....in my case helped me when my rig flooded as well.

I can't imagine having a boat without one. Especially with today's fuels.

If you don't have one they are a breeze to install, and cost will be under $50.

Guess I've been lucky then. The only bad gas I've had had water in it.
OP, it's a must for any boat anywhere I would think.

And for particle contaminants. Get one with the bowl that you can drain.

A racor turbine series with a clear bowl and 10 micron element appropriately sized for your engine's flowrate is the ultimate.

clear bowl 120R is sufficient for most normal size and smaller outboards. Easy rule of thumb is match the port size to your fuel hose size

I've never used it in my boat and won't ever.
