went down to my buddies place on little lagoon in gulf shores this weekend. as many of you know (cause yall was all up in the bama and the pony) the weather was shite. we usually bring the yaks down but didn't due to the storms. still had time for trash fishin off the dock. My buddy caught a little tiny croaker and i put it out carolina rigged on a small circle hook. ten minutes later i reeled this in. proof that if you have a chance to wet a line you better cause you never know when the big boy will bite. I've caught a lot of trout in the 3-4 but this one was my first real gator.

Nice catch. We just got back from Orange Beach today. Made the most of fishing for what it was in the weather. My son really wanted to catch a flounder & ended up catching a nice one at about 10:30 last night. Cooked that dude up for him & turned out to be a nice trip despite the weather

thanks.....we were ill prepared for this kind of fish...no scales or nothing. Looking at similar fish in pics tho i'd guess 5-6. Fish measured at just under 25". it was a male and pretty thin tho. also didn't really fight that hard for a trout that size. i had him landed in a few minutes on a sahara 2500 w/ 8lb mono.

Legnth times girth times girth divided by 837 gives you a pretty close esrimate.

I caught a similar trout, skinny male at 25 1/4" that weighed 4.5 at the dock, could have been 5 when I caught it, but we stayed out all day.

Considering where you caught it, as was the case with mine, it's definitely a great catch. I just got back from several days at OB, and never took my pole out of the condo. Surf looked shitty, no bait fish present, birds never worked.

I'm sure the bay side there would be a better option for fishing, but I'm too spoiled here in LA to waste time looking too hard over there.

I really think a fish that size would be in the upper 3-4 range. Caught a 23" a couple weeks ago and I estimated it at about 3.25.

Nice catch regardless!
