Purchased a Midwest Industries rail as well as a low profile gas block for my AR and was wondering do I really need all the special tools for installation or can I do it without the special tools. I will have to remove the delta ring and all that stuff before I install as well. Thanks

If you figure out a way to chock up the receiver in a vise without destroying it and then find a way to loosen and then tighten the barrel nut to spec without destroying it then I guess you don't need special tools. Not sure how you will pull that off though.

Kinda what I was thinking, debating on whether the investment on the tools would be worth it seeing as how I am going to build more ARs in the future. How much would a gunsmith charge for installation?

I'm not sure what you mean by "special tools", every job requires specific tools. So, you will need the tool required to remove the barrel nut, a way to hold the receiver while you torque the new nut on, a way to measure the torque on the barrel nut, some hex wrenches to install the gas block, the MI rail should have come with the required tools to install it, but spec for tightening their rail to the barrel nut is 55 inch lbs, probably want to measure that but its not critical. If you decide to cut corners while you assemble your device that creates explosions next to your face, please video in case a Darwin Award needs to be given.

Not trying to cut corners at all, just am green in this area and did not know. The Rail did come with some tools for installation but I was more worried about removing the barrel nut.

I made a vice block out of a 2x8 with a jig saw. You can find the diminsions online.

Go to a Gander Mtn or Amazon and buy a Wheeler tool kit. Cost much less than screwing up the rifle.
