Assuming it is for deer. Do you bow hunt, rifle hunt, what area do you hunt?

You will be asking this question on your 20th year planting food plots.

We have settled on the week before or the weekend of squirrel season. We don't bow hunt and it seems like if you plant earlier, there just isn't enough rain to make it come up.

plant right now... clover, lots of it. You wont have to do much in the fall. And it comes back every year

You are going to have to mow it (probably several times) during the summer to make sure that tender new growth is available come fall.

I plant mega plot every year and will never change. I plant labor day weekend give or take a week or two. I will have my plot disc’d up and ready to plant labor day weekend. I will then watch for a storm front coming out of the midwest with a bunch of rain. Broadcast seed, plant and then drag over with old fence and concrete cylinders to move seed around. MEGA PLOT By evolved harvest. We are in Ferriday.

The Turnips come up really nice. They will get really big and they will not touch them that much. They will crush everything else. When it gets really really cold the turnips turn sweet and then deer HAMMER the turnips! You will put a lot of weight on the deer!

Thank me later!

As soon as it dries up I'll be planting corn and soy beans. Late September for my wheat and oats

Top link on that site is about food plots. Lots of good information even if you dont adhere to the QDMA stuff...

I got a lot of ideas from threads by a user known as LC (Lickcreek). Some of the information is for northern climates, but if will give you some ideas...

UNCS - I agree, megaplot is awesome! I recently switched to 7 card stud after a friend recommended it. WOW, its even better than the megaplot, no kidding.

I've had the same experience with the turnips not being touched much until after a good freeze. Mine are getting about as big as a baseball, even with our crap soil conditions
