I'm finishing school in August and want to take a solo fly fishing trip down to the Bahamas. Where is the best place to go? I can do the resort thing or stay in a shack.

Thanks for the recs.

Bluemoons is who you need to talk to. He started a thread a couple weeks ago about a trip he recently took. I think he also took another trip last week. Let me see if I can find the thread.

Here you go: LINK

I'm sure he'll jump in here later and answer any questions you have, but give that thread a read as a start.

Moons is the man for this. You're going to want to focus on the "out islands".

Abaco
Eleuthera
Cat Island
Long Island
Exuma
Acklins

Check out Tailwaters Travel or Flatsbag if you want to do the lodge thing. I booked a trip with Flats Bags to Belize next year hosted by my buddy Ron Ratliff, Gavin with Flatsbag is super informative and easy to work with.

I always recommend Andros. Stay at Small Hope Bay Lodge and book Glaister in advance. He is the best guide you will find. He has an incredible clientele and is one of the hardest working and genuinely nice person I've ever met.

Eleuthera is my second choice. I usually use a guide on Andros and DIY on Eleuthera.

Andros is very anti-DIY fisherman. It's Prescott Smith's home area and he was the catalyst for the regulations that passed last year.

Eleuthera is great, but the fish see a lot of flies. Lots to do on Eleuthera though. Particularly if you stay up north.

That's the primary reason I use a guide on Andros. That, and the fact that Andros is so big, I like to challenge my guides to take me some place new and still put me on fish.

And yes, Eleuthera sees a lot of action. But after doing some unsuccessful exploring last year, I eventually found a couple of good spots. I usually VRBO Eleuthera around Rock Sound or Cotton Bay.

I keep saying, "next year, I'm trying a different Island." Yet, I always find myself pulled back to Andros and Eleuthera.
