So is it just media jumping on a rare occurrence? Should I be legitimately worried? I have a small cut on my foot and while its not deep and will probably be well healed by Saturday, it's got me worried.

The whole reason there are more cases in the summer is because:

A. More people are in the water
B. more people are in the water
C. More people are in the water
D. All of the above

Serious question - does this change your plans for coastal fishing this weekend? For me just may be a bit more cautious when (not if) I cut myself fishing. Be safe out there OB,

I was down there this past weekend and sliced the hell out of myself cutting bait. I cleaned the cut with alcohol and wrapped it up. So far I haven't gotten sick or anything.

Keep antiseptic and bandages on the boat fellas.

So doc- what do you recommend to guard against this - don't see avoiding cuts when fishing or getting water on area. Thinking of just bringing more water to wash area and some hand sanatizer. Maybe being a little more careful with the family. Recommendations?

Thanks

Are you really that surprised?

As long as you washed it properly you should be fine.

Hand sanitizer would work. Something like neosporin would be better. Rubbing alcohol, iodine, even soap. Any of these would be better than nothing. It's just about keeping any cuts clean before they can get infected.

The people who get in trouble are either the ones who neglect it or have cuts they don't know about.

I've heard a bleach/water ratio of 1 part bleach 10 parts water.

Taaka vodka.

Bleach is only really good for topical skin stuff: ringworm, and other stuff like it.

Vibrio had always been there. The internet just tells everyone about it. Keep cuts clean with rubbing alcohol or dilute clorox and u should be fine. This is not a new thing.

I just put 2 bottles of hand sanitizer into the dry bag. Thinking about throwing a premix bleach solution into the boat. Could keep it by the fuel tanks.
