i know a guy that got this during his vasectomy. it rotted his nut's and part of his thigh off and he was in the hosipital forever getting skin grafts and stuff, i don't know what his package ended up looking like but it couldn't be good.
frick you, I can't believe I just read that
So is it just media jumping on a rare occurrence? Should I be legitimately worried? I have a small cut on my foot and while its not deep and will probably be well healed by Saturday, it's got me worried.

Serious question - does this change your plans for coastal fishing this weekend? For me just may be a bit more cautious when (not if) I cut myself fishing. Be safe out there OB,
I was down there this past weekend and sliced the hell out of myself cutting bait. I cleaned the cut with alcohol and wrapped it up. So far I haven't gotten sick or anything.
Keep antiseptic and bandages on the boat fellas.
So doc- what do you recommend to guard against this - don't see avoiding cuts when fishing or getting water on area. Thinking of just bringing more water to wash area and some hand sanatizer. Maybe being a little more careful with the family. Recommendations?
Thanks
Thanks

Are you really that surprised?

As long as you washed it properly you should be fine.
Hand sanitizer would work. Something like neosporin would be better. Rubbing alcohol, iodine, even soap. Any of these would be better than nothing. It's just about keeping any cuts clean before they can get infected.
The people who get in trouble are either the ones who neglect it or have cuts they don't know about.
