Taking the family down to Calypso Hill in Exuma July 15. Plan on fishing the flats while we are down there. Will only be bringing spinning and bait casting gear no fly rod this trip. What do you think are some must bring lures? Plan on bringing jig heads and curl tail jigs, bucktail jigs, a few Mepps spinners. Probably bring a couple of Pompano rigs. You think Gotcha lures would be effective? Maybe some topwater or even floating rattle traps?
Supposedly a lot of Bonefish in the area but will not really be targeting them specifically. Will have boat and kayaks.

Yeah, I don't go somewhere it is hot when it is hot here. Take bug spray. See you there in February.

We use gotchas 75% of the time at Exuma. A word of warning...the local guides don't like kayakers and have been known to call the Marine police on them to check for fishing license.

I have already bought a couple of the Flats Fishing license. Was also advised to leave my drone at home.

Exuma is the best big bone place in the Bahamas in my opinion. The fishing is pretty well recovered from the last hurricane

For the kids just messing around off the docks or around the reefs would an 1/8 lead head with shad or 3" curl tail catch fish?

Probably right. I've seen more big fish caught there consistently than pretty much any other island. Never been there myself though.

All of what you posted will catch fish on the flats there. You'll have shots at a lot of different kinds of fish. Cudas will demolish rattle traps.

For bones, you can get some 1/16oz or 1/8oz bonefish jigs, or just use conch slop.

eta: the guides calling the cops on DIY guys is kinda getting to be an issue everywhere now in light of the new regs. Make sure you get your license before you fish.

Look up Buggs Lures. He makes some great bonefish jigs.

I was in Exuma in March. I fly fished with a guide one day and caught a lot of bones. We were covered up in lemon sharks half the day though. Had a handful get eaten off while tight on the line. The backside of the island is where you will find all the flats.

*** Gotchas were all we fished the whole day.

Am I understanding this correctly, all I need to do is present the application form to the customs agent a pay a fee when I get my passport stamped?

Headed to Eleuthera and Andros and want to make sure we are covered.

Honestly it's a mess, and it depends on your situation. If you're going to a lodge, you can talk to them about getting everything setup for you. Otherwise, you'll have to fill out the application and bring it to the administrator's office on whichever island you're fishing. They'll stamp it and give you your license.

I haven't heard of anyone being able to get one stamped by a customs agent at the airport in Nassau. We asked customs if we could get our licenses there in May and they didn't even know what we were talking about.

you can go to compass cay and hand feed the bonefish and grab them without a hook.
