OK, so ~98% of my fishing experience/knowledge is saltwater. However, I just moved to Austin, so that isn't really an option anymore.

The only thing I know about freshwater fishing is random childhood memories catching sun perch and sacalait with cane poles in Bayou Lafourche acroess my house.

So I'm going to start trying my hand around here. First, are the fish edible here? Any tips? Any good spots?

I want to use artificial lures, because I think I just plan on having an ultra light set up in my trunk so I can pull over whenever.

Why do you say that?

I live right by there and it's exactly where I was planning on going

Alright, the lake has really large bass. Deep water jigging, set up with heavy rigs, because you will have to winch them out of the deep grass.

Throw panther martins on an ultralight setup in the San Gabriel river or the San Marcos river. Small bass but a lot of fun.

Lake Buchanan has some nice striper and hybrids.

They are some really good fish in Lake Austin . Big bait equals big Bass . Water level sucks on Travis now for Bass but you can still catch Catfish in good numbers .

No, you should be fine. I wouldn't try to fish it on the weekend though

Yea, I wouldn't bother out there without a boat. That's for bass. One of lake Austin's best secrets is its catfish, if you care to catch them. You could prob do somewhat well from the bank. Maybe at the park

Sorry, should have specified that I'm interested in bank fishing right now.

Looking for places to stop at for and hour or so after work.

Edit: Yesterday, I went throw out a few lines (rooster tail)in Lake Austin by the 2222 bridge, but there were far too many boats driving around. No luck.
