Will be there from 3/10-12. This is our first time up there, and my first time bass fishing anything other than the marsh/bayous/rivers around SELA. I'm not asking for gps coordinates or even specific colors, but is fishing the lake any different than here? Like, is trolling banks and fishing trees/structure with soft plasics effective or should we get deeper diving baits and cover open water?

I've never fished Caney by myself. Always have gone with a buddy who lives nearby. I don't think in the 15-20 times I've fished it that I've ever made a cast near the banks. His GPS is lit up with underwater structure. Carolina Rigs and Shaky Heads have always been his "go to"

ETA: I've never fished SELA so I don't know if that's any different than what y'all typically fish down there

Try up close but of no luck back out and throw where the boat sits if you are bank fishing.

Fish main lake points 75-100 yards off the bank.

Throw Carolina rigs, deep diving crank baits etc

Depending on water temp you could find some fish on beds

Bed fishing should be good at that time. Any if the northern fingers should be good. If you're looking for bigger fish, you may wanna try some off shore stuff. The bigger fish will spawn on the shallow humps especially if it has wood or grass on it.

If the temps drop, back off the bank and use a crawfish colored rat L trap. Chrome works if it's sunny. Fish the windy backs doing this. If there's no wind, slow down with c-rigs or shaky heads and fish slow.

Caney can be a bitch to fish. Hope y'all get on em!

You can fish almost any depth, style, etc. on Caney.

The finger coves have a good bit of vegetation.

The main lake points have deep structure.

There's also wood and dock structure.

It really is a fun lake to fish that supports almost any kind of presentation.

its around the spawn, bank fishing would be good. Clarity might allow some sight fishing. Senkos
