Fish and Ski - Suggestions....

Thinking about looking for a Fish/Ski boat, boys getting a little older and is starting to ask more about fishing and hunting. Wife and oldest son with DS also interested but more for the ride and family time. I have been looking at Pontoons, but think I would rather have something a little smaller. Mainly going to be used in NELA no saltwater planned. Thoughts on brands/models?

I would get a pontoon and an aluminium boat.

Everyone I know who bought a fish n ski ended up regretting it. Buy a boat for what you will be using it for 90% of the time. If you're going to be fishing out of it mostly, then buy a fishing boat and make it work for cruising/ski. If you're going to cruise/ski most of the time then buy a boat designed for that and deal with it the couple of time a year you fish out of it.
A center console bay boat is much more comfortable for cruising IMO than a bass boat so you could go that route.
Eta: or as suggested get 2 boats.

Same situation here. I was originally dead set on a fish and ski, but the more I thought about it, the less I liked the idea.
I think I would just get pissed off the first time I tried to fish from the fish and ski.
Definately the way to go.
Ive got my 15ft aluminum that will suit me well for a while, then I will pick up a pontoon in the future for the others.

Bay boat. That's what I did. I barely miss my bass boat, and the family is happy.

Swanny even something like OG's boat will work great.
My FIL has the same boat and we can load 4 adults and my kid in there for bream trips and shite.

Like others have said, you will regret a fish and ski. In my experience, buying a multi use product means settling. They are usually mediocre at best at all tasks. If I were you I would decide what the boat will be used for the most: family recreation, sking, wakeboarding, tubing, or fishing salt/freshwater. Then pick the one you will do the most and buy a boat specifically tailored to that. You will be much happier in the long run.

screw all these guys and there opinions...
I have an 18ft Triton that I'd love to sell you .
Seriously, I was thinking I wanted a nice center console possibly aluminum and my wife found this.
It's a nice boat and I got a great deal on it, but it's exactly what everyone here tells you. It's OK at fishing, and it's nice for joy riding/pulling a tube. Does about 55mph so it's fun. It's carpeted similar to a bass boat, so I'm always worried about fish slime. You have to dig out the pedestals and pickup the seats each time you run somewhere. The windshield is nice during weather, but a PITA when you have a larger fish you don't want to horse into the boat. My wife and kids love it.

What are you working with up front where the rub rail zig zags?

I have a 22 ft skeeter center console I pull the kids on skis, wakeboards and tubes all the time. I bought one of those ski poles that go in the back seat pedestal works great. Best of both worlds.

It did nothing great. Just mediocre at everything.
Would not suggest to anyone.
Mine was blue tho

a fish n ski sucks to fish out of but sucks even worse to ski out of

I have a procraft 180 combo and I love it. I'm not a pro fisherman or anything, but I can get out and fish with it just fine. And it is just as good to wakeboard behind as my dads crown line. Just go look at a few and find something you'll like

21' Excel with a 150 Yamaha is what we decided to go with. We don't really ski but tube, knee board, and go hang out at a sand bar, so a true ski boat wasn't what we wanted. We can fish and go straight to doing water stuff afterwards. Duck hunting during duck season although between my other jon boat and my buddies War Eagle, which is better suited for duck hunting anyway, it will not see alot of action in the woods.

What are the board's thoughts on the Tahoe brand of boats made by Tracker. There are a lot of them always listed for sale in various publications. Just wondering if it's because there alot of them sold in our market or if it's because they are low quality (or a combination of both).

Fish and Ski - Suggestions
Just get a boat that's good for fishing. It will be just fine for skiing, tubing, etc. Doesn't work the other way around. Plus, when you go to sell, the fishing boat will sell. A "fish & ski" will sit I your driveway.
