Shot a deer behind my house last season and decided to try boiling the skull. I did that soon after I shot it but just now got around to painting it. It turned out pretty good. But it is a stinking mess when you boil it.

Looks real nice.

I assume you just have to boil the flesh, correct? Did you use a crawfish pot?

I used on old cast iron wash pot. You would have to boil for awhile then pick off meat for awhile.

Got you. Sounds tedious and messy.

I did m 1st one last season also. I read online to add dish soap and laundry detergent to the water to break down the fat. Boy that made a distinct smell!!

How much of a stinking mess are we talking? Could I do it in the kitchen and have the smell out before the wife gets home? Asking for a friend...

OP, looks damn good

Tell your friend if he ever wants to come within 100 yards of his wifes pussy again he will need to do the boiling outdoors.

On-Time Buck Boiler

I've heard good things about using this.

Never boil, only simmer. Boiling will cause the nasal bones and teeth to release. I made my own buck boiler, and it works really well. Best part is, no open flame or propane to worry with.

Flat backed feed bucket
1500w water heater element
Old extension cord
1" conduit nut (goes on inside of bucket to hold element in)

I do 30+ a year in a few of these.

I think it was a 1 1/4" hole saw that made the perfect hole to mount the element in the bucket. The element (less than $10 at Lowe's ) comes with its own O-ring, so once you tighten the conduit nut on the inside it is water tight.

1500w seems to be perfect for simmering ~5 gallons of water without bringing it to a rolling boil.

You can just hang the head from a tree limb with a guitar string and let the birds and bugs do the work.If it discolors, use a bleach and water mixture to whiten and clean it.

I have done this a couple of times, then just painted the skull with some clear varnish.Nothing fancy, they are just in my garage.

Yeah, like that. But the one from Lowe's doesn't loop over like that (not that it matters), but is also cheaper.

Then just cut the female end off the extension cord and wire it to those two terminals. I use liquid electrical tape, then regular tape to seal up the connection.

Add some Dawn to bucket of water...Simmer for about 6 hours, pick the hanging meat off, simmer for another hour or so, blast with regular water hose, then let dry. Go to a beauty supply store and buy 40% peroxide gel, some powder whitener, and mix together into a paste. Paint onto skull. Let sit overnight, rinse off next day, and you're done.
