thinking of taking my 4 yr old with me opening weekend. probably will be an observation hunt. will probably have the biggest buck in MS come out on this rifleless hunt. really curious to see how interested he'll be or how bored he'll get. If anything, we'll take a hell of a nap.

Took my daughter when she was 4 or 5. We went early on morning to the lease, walked to the ground blind and got in. Waiting on the sun to rise she got scared and wanted to go back to the truck. So we packed up and we sat in the truck for the morning hunt.
#1 I didn't get upset with her or try and make her stay.
#2 I screwed up and should have taken her on a afternoon hunt instead of a early morning hunt.
But we stayed at it and at the age of 12 she put her first buck on the ground.

Took my oldest boy hunting in Texas at 5 years old. It was freezing cold and sleeting, he loved it and then we killed two deer and he's been hooked since. Taking my youngest next week. He's 4 1/2 and it's all he's been taking about

No. He's just going with me sitting in box blind. He's still on the 22!

Started taking mine at 4. I always had a charged iPad. I know some here will give you grief but it worked out fine with mine. He's about to be 11 and has killed more bucks than most grown men on this site.

Took my boy (4 then) a few times last season. First sit, we popped a doe about twenty minutes after day light. He loved it. Just don't expect them to sit still.

Take a gun, one of the fondest memories I have of hunting with my dad is the day he killed a nice buck with me in the stand. I was too young to shoot at the time, but man I thought he was John Wayne when he shot that buck in mid air as he jumped a down tree.
I have been taking my boy since he was 3, he's 7 now. Got his first shot at 5 and killed his first at 6. He had a ball when he was younger and I would shoot. Good luck, hope ya'll have a great hunt!!

Oh yea, I never thought to kindly of the hunter that would take their kids on youth weekend and shoot for them. Anytime spend in the woods with the little ones is time well spent.

I've taken my son dove hunting every year since he was 2.
He shot for the first time last year (he's 9).
Took duck hunting when he was 4 or 5. Taken my daughter duck hunting as well.
I'n not the biggest deer hunter but I will take my son this year. I have a 6.8 AR that should be a great deer rifle.
He shot it for the 1st time this weekend and was easily hitting a target that was 6 inches at 100yds.

There was a thread on this a while back. I think the most valuable bits of info were:
1. Bring enough snacks for 10 grown men.
2. Bring enough clothes to keep the kid warm, then double it.

Take all snacks out of the plastic and put in a paper towel makes less noise also load a few movies on the old smart phone and some ear buds shouldn't be cold so that should be good. The inventions of smart phones make this a whole lot easier

first time out with my son was at 4, we ran out of hot chocolate and honey buns in record time.
No ducks to speak of, but one beautiful group of specs that just circled forever......he kept his head down and still. We got 4 or em between my BIL and me. My nephew went to get the ones in the field and one was on the levee.
My son jumped out and grabbed one on the levee that had a little life in it. When it went to flapping, his eyes got as big as silver dollars He held tight though...got this pic framed in my office

Not my first experience but two of my best memories or youth hunts with my son and daughter. My son got a seven point and my daughter got a real nice 9 point with a double brow. They were both eleven at the time. Where i hunt thats not a easy feat. Great memories!!!

Afternoon hunts are best, bring snacks and drink, let them bring an iPad or something like that, the first time I brought my son I brought a blanket for him to sit on the floor, so he doesn't make too much noise moving around and you can never put too much clothes on them

Took mine when he was 5 or so to duck blind. Had a blind near the camp so he could sleep in get a hot bfast and come to blind at 7 or so. He brought bb gun too and would shoot at a dead duck floating :) he had a blast. Hot chocolate boiled peanuts to snack on. Damn there r onions in this room. ... now he beats me at sporting clays and is a sophomore in college. Enjoy it they don't make enuff of those days
