Post a pic of your fire pit during the day. I'm planning on constructing one at the camp and looking for ideas.

Here's mine I just built. Made of 8 cinder blocks, 8 solid concrete blocks, and held together with construction adhesive. All in all it cost $25 dollars to build and works better than the old rim I was using. All materials purchased at Lowes.

Like RoyalBaby above, I also got all my materials at Lowes EXCEPT for the steel plate inner liner that I lined the inner walls with.

I used 68 of these (64 needed for pit plus 4 spares if I cracked one during making it or if one ever gets cracked):

And just like RoyalBaby I used construction adhesive. It measures 16" high and has an exact 3' x 3' interior measurement. I purchased 12 interlocking steel plates from a guy on eBay to line the pit and help protect the stones from cracking.

If I had to do it without the steel liner I'd leave a half inch gap between all the stones to allow for air flow.

Total cost with stones, adhesive and steel liner came to about $350 with tax. ($250 for stones and adhesive and $100 for plates)

Does that heat radiate well?

Yes sir! When I have it loaded with wood you can't get within 3 ft of it. Have to wait for it to burn down a bit to do any rearranging with the poker.

Same with mine. I didn't leave any air gaps between bricks, but it only sits about 10" above the ground. It heats up my whole backyard.
