I agree with the others. Older Bayliners are absolute crap. That's why the price is so cheap. They're the Yugo of the boat world and the resale value reflects this. Find a different brand.

Thank you for the companies to look for. Found a 1997 Four Winns Sundowner 205. I am going to set up a time to meet with the owner of that one as well.

My goal was to try 2-3 boats and pick which I prefer the best. Only issue was I had no damned idea which brands were superior.

Thanks again!

Did they use the Volvo setup in 97? or is it another Mercruiser? Volvo is an excellent combo.

I rode in probably 20 different types of boat before I even started to look seriously to purchase. Took that many to narow it down to what size and style of hull fit us the best and then I started to figure out what to look for in those types to get a deal. My last boat I ended up travelling 6 hours to purchase because i couldnt find what i wanted locally for a good price. Sold that boat after 8 years for $2K more than I paid for it.

1997 20.5' Cuddy on 2008 Alum I-beam trailer.
5.7L V8 - GM block - Volvo SX outdrive
3x Canvas's: Cover - Bimini - Full Camper top!

I deploy in October so goal is to buy one in the next month at the lastest. As far as driving 6 hours ha ha I hope to god that I can find one I really love closer then that.

Ride in as many as you can. You are all over the place on styles of boat so far. Figure out what fits your needs.

Did he say why? I would guess improper winterization leading to a frozen / cracked block.

I would cancel the test drive on that Sea Ray. The owner is either clueless or isn't being totally honest. Either is bad for you as a buyer. Things aren't adding up.

On top of that stored outside with no cover I'm going to say that boathe would be a money pit and a bucket of problems.

I am not familiar with maxum

I have no intention of purchasing a boat without driving a few different ones. This will at least give me an idea if I prefer this style or if we are looking for something different.

Whatever I do decide to purchase, I have spoken to a marine surveyor today that will take it over water to inspect.

So if this guy is lying and we are interested in it, he will get nervous when I even mention a Marine Surveyor :)

I have owned a few ski boats and I always thought the Cuddy cabins were a lot wasted space. Especially if you are just going out for a day on the lake/river tubing, skiing, and such. The driver (you) needs some bikinis in an open bow.
