Ok, I finally got in the boat and headed out to Barataria this weekend. Got into some reds that broke line, broke my Stradic reel that I was close to 15 years old and I realized that I have either too heavy or too light rods for my taste now. I re-spooled my reels with couple or 3 year old mono....bad move but didn't want to throw it out.

So youngun's I am going to purchase a new rod and reel. Whats all this talk on here about the Mojo rod?

Stradics are higher than giraffe nuts now but I want a quality inshore rod and reel combo between 200-300 bucks.

Go................

I re-spooned my reels

All that spoonin' you been doing with those reels must have made em weak, rusty or something?

When u get u a new one,, just stick to re-spooling it and maybe they'll last better fer ya.

If you want to go a different route then get a penn btl 1000 spinning reel.

Or one if Daiwa's new baitcasters. Forget the names of them but the upper end models are awesome.

I find it harder to fish live bait with a casting setup and a cork like I use to fish mullets. You better have your back to the wind or you can get bird nests from hell. At least I do,

I use my casting rods for plastics, spoons, spinner setups, carolina rigs and spinning for cork fishing

I am the point where I mostly use spinning reels to be honest. I only use my baitcasters for topwaters and spinnerbaits. The Penn btl 1000 i mentioned is a really good spinning reel.

you already have a good setup. those old Curados are pretty tough.

talking about string, i once used Stren and then switched to Trilene, on the same rod. talk about a difference in feel... no comparison.
