That picture is great. Here kitty, kitty. That picture is a house cat. If there is a black cat in Plaquemines it is a jaguar or leopard. Let loose, the cargo ship angle is slighty intriguing.

FWIW, Don is incorrect about cougar/puma/mountain lion/panther sightings in SELA.

Not according to LWDF. But, there has been a small population in the Pearl River basin for sure. Both of my uncles have seen them. My deceased uncle used to run a hunting operation in the Yucatan for jaguars and cougars. He saw two, one in MS and one in LA while turkey hunting. He was a past Chairman of the NWTF. His younger brother saw one cross a road just north of Pearlington, MS. The younger uncle also had tracks along a creek on his property confirmed by my deceased uncle. I'll take my deceased uncle's word over Don and the LDWF.

I can't even discount that there could be remnants of a jaguar population, though doubtful it is possible. Especially deep in the Atchafalaya Basin. Southern LA is in the historical range, so it is possible but highly(and I mean highly)unlikely.

That's a dumbass article. I watched the video of the one they killed in Bossier and they didn't have any choice. It was coming down the tree. I'd have shot it too. It was in the MIDDLE OF BOSSIER CITY! Not out on the edge. There was a bear ended up in that same neighborhood that they were able to dart. The cat didn't give them the opportunity. He wasn't staying there. He was coming down. Now.

As for the idiots that think there's a black cougar in La much less anywhere on the whole damn planet in the history of the species, you're wrong.

Period.

They don't have the genes to make that possible.

If there's a black cat in south Louisiana it's a house cat, a bobcat, or an escaped leopard or jaguar.

In other words, there's no black panthers in Louisiana. Don't care what some dumbass in Plaquemines says. They're wrong.

No they aren't going to catch it. They aren't going to kill it. They aren't even going to get a picture of it. They'll find all kinds of idiots that will swear up and down they saw it though.

We know it is a 25lb feral cat that is probably three generations wild. A cat that big would be a baddass predator for sure. This is all hype.

Ehh.. I've seen some big wild tomcat's... nothing near 25 lbs.

Granted, I don't know how crazy the coonass was that claimed to see it... but you never know.

Just a big cat that some dude saw and said "Poo yie, dat a big cat in dat bayou, he wa kinda black looking, yeah."

I'm on the side of mountain lion/puma... not black.

Not to be a smart ass. But my father and I saw a cat similar to this one hunting at night behind Nairn when I was 10. This was in 98 so I am sure this is not the same cat but it just shows you how late the news can be with info. We told everyone that would listen about the big arse 'black jaguar' that we saw. Damn I wish he was alive so I could tell him how right we were.

You weren't.

My own dad swears he saw a black panther in Soda Lake back in the sixties. I've seen them before in dim light and they do look black.

They're not.

Sounds about right.

And to faxis you won't get any argument from me brother, I once shot a rabbit from 40 yards with a 410 when I was nine.

Sometimes you have to know your sources.
