Have never owned either but I want to buy something next year.

If I'd go the aluminum route I know I would want something built better and heavier than The mass produced brands.

What's y'all's opinions on pros and cons of both over the life cycle of the boat.

Thanks.

Fiberglass

I've not ridden in any aluminum bay boat that wasn't wet and rough. That's not to say that they're not out there.

By and far my experience in fiberglass bay boats are that you can get a drier, easier riding hull. And their resale, depending on the brand and condition, will probably be on average higher.

im not saying that money is not an issue but I don't mind spending, within reason, for a quality boat.

I'd primarily be fishing Big Lake area and Toledo.

Aluminum doesn't offer any flex in bigger chop. It is a very jarring ride.

I have fished primarily out of gravois' my whole life and I prefer glass.

The biggest difference (I own an aluminum boat and ride in a friends glass boat) is weight. The aluminum boat will be pushed around a lot more in the wind. I love my aluminum boat

May want to look at a Bay/Bass Hybrid Boat. Would handle a chop nicely and has the fishability and speed of a traditional bass boat. Something styled like this. LINK

That's a nice boat but although I enjoy bass fishing, I'm looking for a c/c and something with more "floor" area.

My son and I have been know to run an occasional line and to put out a net or two in Toledo. He also loves to salt water fish and I want something I don't have to be scared of in a little wind and chop.

One of the reasons I was leaning aluminum is that I could be a little more rough with it and I'm not one to spend hours cleaning and waxing a boat. I'm much more into utility than flash.

I just bought a used 20' Gaudet. It's CC with lots of floor space. I went aluminum because in my mind it's less to worry about. I'm pretty OCD with stuff, and I didn't want to worry about anything banging into it etc.. I also do a lot of crabbing, jug lines and all, so I feel much better about getting it dirty or dropping things in it and spraying it out to clean it, nothing really to have to keep up like I envision having keep up a glass boat. I know glass boats ride a little better, but a 3/16 custom aluminum hull will probably outlast me.

a boat rides wet or dry based solely on the hull design and that's mainly the shape and design of the bow.

fiberglass doesn't last, it has a given shelf life which can be extended with keeping it hidden out of the sun but it will crack and fail at some point, that's a plain and simple fact.

aluminum will last you a lifetime plus, it can be welded if need be if you hit something and very little you can do to it that cant be repaired cheaply.

They both have their pros and cons.

I lean toward fiberglass. Aluminum is loud as hell and for the most part will knock your teeth out in rough water.

If you fish or run any open water and have a shed or place to store your boat dry, fiberglass is the only way to go. I've owned both and my glass boat was head and shoulders better than my aluminum boats.

Glass is smoother. Aluminum can take a beating
