I fished in a few different areas from PAC to grand isle, and my favorite would have to be Marsh between off LA1 between Leeville and Grand Isle. So many good spots and easy access. I've been wanting to Launch from Bessons. I heard there are some good Yak spots there also. Anyone with experience there?

Basons in Golden Meadow?

I fished there and there are tons of spots to fish. Short paddle too.

In my limited kayaking experience I've fished LA1 between Fourchon and GI (a few times with luck each time), LA1 between Leeville and Fourchon (once with a skunk but bad weather), out of Basson's once, and a whole lot in Cocodrie.

When I fished Basson's, I just went south and fished in the marsh and picked up a red or two. I think this was actually my first time kayaking so I didn't venture out too far. Alot of people head straight to the sulphur mine from there, though. It's about a 2-2.5mi paddle.

I got turned on to a place in Cocodrie and fished it almost every weekend in the summer of 2011 picking up a minimum of 2-3 every time with several limits. Didn't fish it as much in 2012 but when I did we didn't have as much luck. The area has limited access for the fish to get in and it crossed my mind that we over-fished it but I don't know. Hopefully it picks up again this year (went yesterday afternoon for a quick trip and only found gale force winds and dirty water, buddy caught one rat. Plus my tackle box was in my dad's boat so I was stuck with only what I had tied on from my last trip: a silver spoon, a spinner, and a chartruse/orange minnow).

I hope to expand my Cocodrie area horizons this year. Using google earth, three-four spots I want to try are the marsh east of Tradewinds (looks like a little paddle to get there but plenty of marsh once you're there), launching at Coco Marina and going behind LUMCON (which is deaconjones stomping grounds) or heading across the intercoastal and hitting the marsh there, and over towards Dulac launching at T-Irv's and jumping across the intercoastal to the the marsh there.

I'm not big into chewing up a lot of mileage because the diablo isn't what you would refer to as a speed boat (though i did throw a rooster-tail yesterday going with the wind!) so i try to keep my trips to 5-6 total miles (which seems doable in these spots).

Thanks for your input coon. Yea, I'm not into traveling long distances either. My Ascend tracks well, but I want to fish not paddle my day away I might have to try Cocodrie one day. I love exploring new areas.
