Getting a new reel in a couple weeks. Thinking about getting shimano calcutta but I was just seeing what the wise minds of the OB say. I already have a shimano Calcutta and it works great.

Favorite? For the saltwater stuff Shimano Curado. Abu Garcia Revo SX is a very close second. For bass fishing, reverse those 2.

This if you have the bucks. Other then that, spinning reels due to wind along the coast and using heavy baits/cork fishing.

The old green plastic Curados. The new ones are freaking awesome as well. A Citica is a great alternative for less money.

ETA: Calcutta's are nice, but after fishing with low-profiles I just can't go back.

Also if you're gonna spend the $$ the Abu Garcia Revo Inshore is a fine arse reel. And that thing is made to be dunked in salt.

Have heard nothing but great things about the new Revo's. Had a bunch of the old Chronarchs for years (back when you could get one for $99). Bought a Chronarch this spring and loving it, a lot more versatile for varying conditions than a Calcutta. Set the brakes right and you can rip them into the wind all day long without backlash.

In my experience, Chronarchs and Curados have been more durable than Calcuttas. Albeit the Calcutta I own is the silver model, and most of those contain a faulty piece that controls the release. Regardless, I like being able to get my fingers in/around the spool when necessary; this is much more difficult with the Calcuttas. Taking apart a Chronarch/Curado (and most other low-pro bait casters) is much easier to do

ETA: I'm about to buy a new Chronarch

I have never taken apart any reel except for my Calcutta and I don't see anything difficult about it.

Gheyyy

Pow pow says ambassadors are the best.

Prolly what i'll buy next. The flat reels are badass but i like the slow gears and easier access to the spool for backlash pickin

My dad hates the low profile reels. I tried to make him use mine when his line was bad and kept popping on one trip, but he didn't want to

I took an old ambassaduer reel from my dad that he had since the 70's. Cleaned it up and it works lie a charm.... But I don't see myself buying anything but low profile reels

I have a old ambassator from the late 1950's. It is a 5000D. It is green and it still works to this day. I just didn't use it. I gave it to my son. It was my Dad's.
