In market for a new tent. Currently looking at the Browning big horn made by Alps Mountaineering

First hand experince/endorsements of your adventures would be awesome.

Plan on using 4 to 10 times a year

Depends on what you'll be using it for.
For a base camp for hunting, it looks good.
For a tent to take the family to the state park on weekends, it's stupid big.
Tent pads at most state and national parks are only 10 x 10

As much as it rains in Louisiana, I'd strongly suggest one with a bathtub floor and a FULL RAIN FLY that extends all the way to the ground.
Otherwise, you have a portable kiddie pool

I can hardly stand my family in a 3,000 sq ft house, I'd go crazy in a tent with them

How many people do you plan to sleep?

If its for a typical family of 4 your probably right on as far as size, maybe a tad big.

I dont like the rain fly on that one, looks like it will let alot of water in, especially if there is any wind at all. Anything touching the sides will get soaked. Look for something with a larger rain fly and a vestibule.

We bought a Coleman Weathermaster and love it. I had it up through the huge storm that came through yesterday and there was all of 1 dime size puddle right at the window where the wind and rain was hitting. We have used it several times and love the space.

To each their own but we quite enjoy the large space of the cabin style tents. I like to be able to stand up in the tent. This was a HUGE factor in our decision. I hate feeling like I'm in a coffin.

We are currently using a Kelty Mantra 6. 3 season. Full Rainfly. It is a GREAT tent, but it is small for a family of 4 that has a lot of gear . And I want to be able to stand up and walk around in the tent.

We will be using the new tent for family camping.
I was looking at cabin style tents with vertical walls but I understand it will not be as weather proof as other tents.

I am looing for spend around 250 - 300$

we have a bass pro 3 room tent...I think it sleeps 10-12 and its just about perfect for a family of 4 to have cots and room to move around.

Its several years old so I don't know if they still make the model i have or not.

Glad to hear your review on Coleman weathermaster 10. Just got ours in last week from amazon. Was gonna go this weekend but looks like it will be too hot for our liking. How's the door? Really excited about not having to fix a zipper constantly.
