I've been in denial for quite some time and I'm finally bringing myself to admit my eyesight isn't great anymore. Not a big fan of glasses or contacts, but it's the first step to LASIK in the future.

Question to the visually-impaired OB:

Do any of you wear contacts? How much of a PITA is it when hunting or fishing? or doing anything for that matter...

Any insight is appreciated.

I gave up on contacts. I never hated glasses, and it got to where I could not read stuff on my phone with them in. I have some sunglass frames with non-polarized transitions lenses for general sports use and hunting, then Wiley X prescription sunglasses for fishing and driving.

worn contacts since grade school. hasn't ever been a problem for me, really. When camping over night I'll just sleep with them in my eyes because it's usually pretty tough to clean your hands well enough in the outdoors to take them out. they'll be a little dry in when you wake up but then I drop in a few eyedrops and I'm good to go.

all that to say, the key is to make sure your hands are clean if you intend to take them out, otherwise you're in for a world of pain.

Have worn contacts every day for over 25 years, just not the same pair Never had much trouble out of them. Keep them clean and you will be fine.

I am at the point now where I need glasses sometimes to read while I have my contacts in. If I take my contacts out, I can read anything.

I wear contacts and bring rewetting drops with me. Staring through a scope for 20 minutes will dry them out sometimes

I have the kind that you keep in for a month

I have monthlies and it has never been an issue. I just wear contacts with sunglasses over to reduce glare and reduce some fatigue. Just a forwarning, DO NOT remove them unless your hands are clean and free of blood or other particles. Wash with soap several times before taking them out or you can get an infection. I do prefer contacts over glasses until I can get LASIK (I am 18 now and need to wait to 24).

I do, and have no problems with them at all.

This.

My contact has fallen out when staring at something, then I blink and it pops out. Doesn't happen often but just hope your hands are clean. I too carry rewetting drops everywhere. I had an infection once in 12 years and it ain't fun. People freak out thinking you have pink eye.

ETA: I love my contacts way more than glasses.

Thanks for the info everybody. I'm thinking of getting the monthly type as well.

Now I can understand why some of my friends would bring enough stuff to perform eye surgery when we'd go places for a night or two.

Sounds like it shouldn't be too bad, as long as I can manage with the sweat/ rain/ wind during all-day fishing trips and whatnot.

The only issue I can tell you about regarding contacts is that they tend to dry out if you are out in the sun all day. Just be sure to take them out at night, clean them and let them rehydrate. Don't sleep in your lenses. I did for a long time and my eyes paid for it. Another tip to pass along, if you are going to eat boiled seafood take your lenses out BEFORE you get the seasoning all over your hands.

The only things I bring are some saline, a spare pair and my glasses just in case.

I have worn them since middle school and really don't even notice them for the most part. If anything I have a bad habit of wearing them too long.

As an Optometrist I wear contact lenses when hunting, so yes they are safe to wear and hunt in.

If you need an eye doc in Thibodeaux I have a bunch of good ones down there I am friends with I can recommend.

The only issues I've had with contacts outdoors have been in environments where it's hot and humid and you sweat a lot. Sweating in your eyes wearing contacts blows.

I have a few in mind but I'm open to suggestions.
