Have any of you guys/gals have any experience with establishing a lawn on multiple acres? If so, what method did you do? Seed, hydroseed, or sod what type of grass?

Seeding Bermuda or rye will be easiest. Sodding or plugging will be astronomically high

I'm going to assume multiple acres means plenty sunlight. I'd spray MSMA at 64oz/acre, and let a lot die. Bound to be some natural common Bermuda in there, and I'd cater to it.

I turned a hay field into a ball field like this before. 64oz/acre, then waited two weeks. Sprayed again at 48oz/acre. Fertilized the next week. Then 48oz/acre again the following week. Fertilize the next week. This knocked out the other weedy grasses and brought the bermuda out.

That's how i did my yard except I put one gallon and a quart of MSMA in a 25 gallon rig on the back of a 4 wheeler and sprayed it. (1 acre)

Yall might want to read your label again, 1-2oz msma per gallon is plenty.
OP, will you be grazing or haying the land?
We kill everything with glyphosate, chisel plow, disc, roll, seed and roll again. Planted out Ranchero Frio bermuda 3 yrs ago and have been very pleased. Overseed with TAMTBO ryegrass in the fall. In the spring is the only time we treat for weeds with 2,4D. The rye really keeps the weeds down. We graze and usually mow just once a year to knock back the end of the rye and let the Bermuda get sun. Fertilize 3x yr.
Even if you just get in there and disc it will help a lot in bringing out common bermuda.

Sorry guys! I should've given more details. The property is currently wooded and not one blade of grass currently exist.so I will be starting from fresh dirt. It will be disced and then raked and prepped properly. Also this establishment will begin in Spring.

Hey this will just be simple turf for residential property. Kids and dogs will be running around, no grazing.

Gotcha. Seeding will be your most least expensive option and if you dont have irrigation control then it is all in Gods hands. The second year after you seed is when you will really see how things took. I feel like the most important thing you can do is roll it once done broadcasting seed, you really need good soil contact. Look for a coated and hulled seed for faster establishment. You may also want to broadcast some unhulled seed for longer germination times to cover other variables of getting it established. Good luck and make sure you select an improved variety.

MSMA is a selective herbicide. Not all sprayers are calibrated to disperse the same gallons/acre, therefore meaning you can't mix using ounces per gallon. I have one spray rig that sprays at 15 gals/acre, and another at 25 gals/acre. So impossible to calculate the amount of active ingredient per acre via a.i./gal. That's why you must use active ingredient/acre.

Thank you. I believe my options for seed will depend on how many trees I clear out and once I can figure out how much sun exposure I'll have.

Yes I get that. 1/2 gallon per acre is ridiculous.

It'll turn a pasture of bahia and dallis into turf, though. My big boom rig sprays at 25gal/acre, so that's only 2.56 oz/gal. Not ridiculous for reclaiming pasture land.
