Today L-3 Communications Corp. settled a lawsuit for $25.6 million that claimed they covered up test data which clearly indicated the sights weren’t as tough as many once believed. It turns out that the sights are prone to failure when the conditions are less than ideal. Sights like the Model 512 featured in this article were claimed to be impervious to temperatures ranging from -40 degree to +140 degrees and unfazed by humidity, moisture and shock.

Further proof that Aimpoint is king.

it doesn't say who they settled the lawsuit with
Were they sued for false advertising? by the FCC?
that article sounds pretty biased but I don't own one so I couldn't speculate

US vs L3 communications.

They were being sued for fraud.

Not an article, it's a blog and is biased. But as chris said, it was the government who they settled with over fraud.

No. L3 did not report testing that would show that certain sites were performing below government contractual obligated operating parameters. The government in my opinion was warranted in their suit.

Truth, possible Tijicon is coming on hard though.

I had an EOTech 512 about a decade ago...only good for light use rifles. When the 512 went tits up Aimpoint was the only red dot I would buy.

There are a few issues. Parallax is the first that comes to mind. There are several MROs being returned for that issue. Also Tim (Military Arms Channel) is having about half of the MROs he sells in his shop being returned because of the battery clips/connectors snapping into pieces when putting in batteries.

So, where does the money go? To the consumer or Fedgov?

If anyone has a 553 they want to dump, I've got $100 cash for it.

First generation of a product. This is expected. This will push them to make improvements and make it better.

Indeed. It hasn't had the time to prove itself as much as Aimpoint. They need to fix the battery clip issue before anything though.

They should have a better product considering the extra $300 - $400. That said, the EOTech's are going to keep working in environments that will make tactical mall ninjas quit long before they have to worry about it.

Agreed. I'm sure the second gen will have most of the deficiencies fixed.

Still I like that a company is finally competing with the Micro. It's been king of the quality micro dot segment for a long time.
