I have been doing some research for a new scope for my new rifle. It is a Tikka T3 Stainless Lite in LH/ 270 Win.

I have had my mind made up on a Leupold VX3 for the longest time, but keep seeing rave reviews on the Vortex Viper line of scopes. I like the shorter/ more compact length of the Vortex over the Leupold. All of the reviews from Optics Planet and MidwayUSA say former Leupold lifers made the switch to Vortex.

Any Vortex owners here?

I'm also curious because A buddy can get me one at dealer price. I'm stuck between those, the zeiss conquest, and meopta meostar. I want the best one for low light situations.

That's my suggestion. Rize has one. It's incredible.

Glad to see you are considering it. I have had a VX3 on my 7 mag for years and loved it, a couple of years ago it would not sight in, after checking the mounts rings, cleaning, changing loads etc, i finally decided to send the scope back to Leopold , and they were great about it they checked it out and a spring or something was broke, they fixed and returned it quickly, all that was great, the disappointing thing about this story is when I brought the scope the the UPS store, I already had it boxed up and the address written on the box, when I gave it to the lady she said " another scope back to leupold ? We send lots back there" ow

Since then I bought a Swarovski for my .270 and a vortex viper PST for my 338 (both Tikkas) and I am 100% certain the vortex is my favorite. But just go to cabelas or like store and look through all of the above , and you will be a believer, but buy from midway or optics planet

That is extremely enlightening info!!

I went to BPS yesterday with the sole purpose in mind to browse their scopes and make a decision to order from Optics Planet after seeing the scope in person. I was extremely disappointed in their scope selection yesterday and left with more questions than answers. The last few times I've been to Cabela's, I've had to stand in line for a long period of time and finally saying to hell with it and leaving the gun counter.

I'm going to make a pass by Puglia's this week and maybe even over to Jim's in BR before I order on-line. I remember Optics Planet offering an additional 10% off on Memorial Day, but I wasn't ready to order then. I'm going to have my selection ready and hope they offer a similar deal on July 4th.

When you get ready to order call optics planet and ask them what their best price is, they usually come down from the advertised price

Remember that like all other brands vortex has several lines of scopes get viper or better, I have the PST 4-16x50, I think it is comparable in price to the leupold you were looking at, but as a 30 mm tube ( huge plus) illuminated reticle ( thought I would not like and just not use, I love it) side focus ( neat but not a deal breaker ) ballistic adjustable turrets ( will only need if you are long range shooting, I am getting my 338 ready for an Alaskan hunt and getting use to the adjustable elevation turret , it is pretty cool and I will probably be ordering the custom one once I get my load right)

Go to sport optics/ interstate guns in Hammond. They have more scopes than you can imagine, just don't let them empty your savings.

Also, they generally beat everyone's prices.

Go by Interstate Guns in Hammond, they will sell it, mount it and rough zero it for you. They usually have a good inventory of everything

Did he have regular cross hairs or the red or green dot reticle? I looked through one in the store with the green dot and really liked it. Theres just so many different opinions on scopes that it's hard to choose. Also can you get it with the adjustable turrets and how important are they?

I followed your suggestion and was blown away at their selection, knowledge, prices, etc. After talking to Chris at the store for a while the other day, I've decided to purchase the Meopta MeoPro 4x12x50mm with the BDC reticle in lieu of the Vortex scope.

I'm glad I didn't purchase on-line and was able to make an intelligent decision on my scope with their professional help. I highly recommend anyone looking for a scope/ new gun/ ammo/ etc to take a trip to Hammond and visit with these guys.
