Have a trip planned with brother and cousin for next fri, sat, sun to catch some specks. I was going to go down a day early and fish off the beach for specks. I've never done this off elmer's before, anyone got any tips, good spots and baits for this time of year. Or anyone been recently?? Thanks guys

All I've heard is that the trout are on fire in the grande isle area. Dave is heading there tomorrow to fish elmers in the morning. I'm guessing if he does well you will see post from him this time tomorrow.

Just got down here. Throwing the net for bait and drinking beer. I'll be in the water for 5:30.

I was down there today and it did not go well. It looked like people were only catching catfish on shrimp. To be fair, I started fishing just before 9:00 so I missed the best time but there wasn't much happening. I did see some movement but they weren't taking anything; I walked the dog with a Mirrorlure, Vudu shrimp under a popping cork, and used a double speck jig rig and no luck.

Edit: This was all on that dirt Elmer's Island road. The surf was up so I didn't try fishing on the beach but I did bring the surfboard down so it wasn't a total waste.

Use live shrimp fished using drop shot method,or under cork. I went last week and caught my limit of specks in about two hours right at the bridge road leading to the beach..the surf had 4 to 5 foot rollers washing over the sand bars dirty water....

A lot of people went last week and caught which means it will be super crowded this week especially with that article on Louisiana Sportsman. There will be a lot of people that go and don't catch. Just because the trout were there last week, it doesn't mean they will be there this week. Last week we had a week long of steady north/northwest winds which is optimal for beach fishing. It cleans up the water. This week we have had straight south/southwest winds which is exactly opposite of what you want. Higher tides in the beach, more wave action, and dirty water. Trout don't like dirty water.

Just watch the winds down there and that will tell you where the cleaner water is. The trout will be with the cleaner water

The bridge where Elmers Island Rd meets Highway 1 or the bridge to Fourchon?

One LA sportsman article and not the fish is on FIYA!!! Haha....... The only way to know is to go, if you want to go fishing GO! If the fish are biting, you can hit them just about anywhere on the beach.

Got to elmers island at 5. Surf and water sucked, we didn't hang around. Launched at the yak launch on the back side of the island. (It's pretty terrible, almost need 4x4 to get back there) I caught a bunch of undersized trout and only one keeper. The guy I was with was inexperienced and that slowed me down some, I didn't get to fish very hard. But I don't think I would have done much better by myself.

Fish were caught on matrix shad.

Left elmers without wetting a line. Launched yaks at Leevile public launch. 2 reds a flounder and several throw back specs.

Eta: weatherman swung and missed on the wind forecast. Lake Jesse was white capping.

Ok so south wind beach fishing for specks is shite I'm taking it?? Where to go if that's the case?? I have a boat but since they were destroying them on the beach figured I'd try that first. But seems like I missed the window especially with south wind and rain coming next week all week. Just was looking for some help that's all guys thank yall for yalls input. I can catch a bass out of a ditch just kinda new to saltwater.

Either you were in the wrong spot or that road has deteriorated horribly. When I was there a month ago it was pretty much accessible by car and limestoned.

South wind will bring in some fresh clean gulf water so the outaide should be good depending on how heavy the wind gets. Inside is safe behind the island so it should be nice and calm. Just get out there and decide.
