Edit: need to replace about 6 ft of will plate 2x4. Brick exterior. Do I need to carry the load for such a short run? Could I do half and half? Brick is carrying some of the load

So my laundry room had a leak I'm trying to find. Cut out bottom of wall. Behind my brick is a black sheeted material of a fiberous nature. Is it asbestos? Thanks

How old is the house, looks like BlackBoard to me. If your not sure, you can call a company to come look at it.

How old is the house? Is it not just the black sheeting board stuff?

I was able to call my dad. He said it wasn't. Can't remember the name he used. Basically a sugarcane board they spray both sides with tar...that ks

Second question. It seems the water sitting against the house since the concrete drains some there is wicking in. Is there a method to caulking where the brick meets the slab from the exterior?

Thanks

First things first- eliminate water sitting against your house. That's bad.

Nah, that is just that backer board that they install behind bricks...just spray it down with some automotive undercoating to keep it from crumbling and carry on...

We called it Celotex(sp) and I'm sure that was the producer, nothing to worry about.
