Anyone have an early lead/recommendations on any dove fields offering hunts in South Louisiana come September? (Lafayette area to Southeast Louisiana would work best).

Getting that itch!

The state has a bunch of public fields. You might want to search the LDWF website for more info.

On a side note, I have about 150 yard strip of mostly milo and a few sunflowers out at our ranch. Jumped 17 doves out of it last Sunday when I walked down the strip to check on it.

I'm starting to get the itch myself.

I'm icing down my beer already and pre-rusting my shotgun for it's inevitable weekend of neglect bouncing around in the back of my truck.

Only area around Lafayette that you will find is Sherburne. I "hunted" there last year, which is to say I sat on a bucket and stared up at the sky. Not a whole lot of doves to speak of, and didn't hear of much success. I believe the wet spring and summer (sound familiar?) either prevented LDWF from planting, or the planting didn't respond well, because the doves didn't come into those fields very readily.

This is acceptable only if said shotgun is an 870.

Where is your ranch? If you need some boys to come help move birds around let me know

Just hope it is as good as last years hunts here in south mississippi. Opening morning we killed close to 700, and the next weekend 500

I have heard that the hogs were the reason why the dove fields at Shereburne did so poorly

It's an 870 express freedom group model. I pre-rust it by putting it outside for 10 minutes.
