Remington R51 "back on the market." Was recalled two years ago due to reliability issues.
LINK Not that I'd buy one. Just reinforces the concept of never buying a new design -- wait until all the bugs are corrected.

.

On a similar note, saw a blog this morning reporting that the new Glock 17M (supposed to be the model that FBI recently chose) that Indianapolis PD bought had/has issues with slide lock spring and/or recoil spring. LINK 2

Should be a simple fix, but the lesson for the private consumer is "Why buy a new/untested product if you're gonna rely on it for self-defense? Let somebody else do the beta-testing for a couple of years."

I never even drank the Gen 4 Kool-Aid. Glock's Gen 3 design is thoroughly tried and true.

Agreed.

Actually I carry a Gen 2 (I just prefer to not have the finger grooves). But I'd have the same confidence in a Gen 3.

Same thing applies to cars and trucks.

That's why 1911 is the GOAT.

Agreed. Buying a vehicle in the last year of the old generation is a smart move.

I think he's saying if you plan on keeping it a long time and want it to be trouble free.

Absolutely serious. You may not get the best up-and-coming technology but you'll get a reliable vehicle.

When a generation has been on the road for 6-10 years the manufacturer is usually able to clean up most of the defects.

I love how you'll be absent for days on end and have a simple and eloquent post like this...
