Doing the Covey Rise thing tomorrow
Posted by Bayouboogaloocrew on 1/8/16 at 9:35 pm42
I know...it's not real hunting, and I would much rather be in a real blind. But who doesn't like shooting regardless. Bringing the kids and the wife to stay in one of the cabins. Staying with three other families who are close friends. Shooting mallards with the boys in the morning and skeet tomorrow afternoon. Should be fun, anybody else ever been?

I haven't done pen-raised ducks....but I have hunted pen-raised quail with a few pheasant mixed in. I was kind of skeptical, but it turned out to be a damn blast. I wouldn't say it was like really hunting...more like shooting skeet, but you wind up bringing some damn good birds home to eat.
update when you are done and let us know how it turns out.

Will do. I've been to shoot skeet and chucker before but never ducks. I'm skeptical too, but my buddies have been before and enjoyed it. They say the kids will love it so I'm ok with that.

I wouldn't be too skeptical...a whole lot of folks pay pretty good money to do it, so it has to be pretty fun. bring the kids into the picture and you have the makings of a damn nice outing...

It's a great place! I have never hunted there but tried to sell the account last year and it's a place I would like to go!

Great place run by good people. You'll enjoy it, as will the kids.

Did the skeet and quail hunt last year. Pretty cool deal. Those cabins are damn nice.

I have done the ducks, quail and European pheasant shoot, all were fun, quail are my favorite, pretty cool to watch the dogs work
The ducks were, well they were just too easy, they put you in a blind and when you ar all set your "guide" will blow on his call a few times to let the releaser know you are ready then they release a few ducks at a time and they fly down the bayou right in front of you and you have easy pass shots all morning, no decoying etc. kids had a great time and had smiles from ear to ear and I just kind of giggled , one th kids was wearing an orange shirt if that tells you anything.
