Needing some help from the OB. My 11 y/o Wiemaraner was ran over 2 weeks ago. My wife and I are ready to get another dog and we are considering a German Short Haired Pointer (GSP). Do any of you guys know of reputable breeders or maybe you are having a litter soon? We loved our Wiem but he could be stubborn at times. I live on the coast of MS but would drive for the right dog. Want a quality AKC dog. TIA

They have a guy in Texas that has a great GSH pointer set up.

I'll look for the name.

ETA: East Texas

I am getting a GSP pup from Six Hitch Kennels in Covington. Their litter is due next week and I will get her in mid January. I do not know if they have any of those pups still available though.

I grew up with Wiems and when it was time to replace our Blue Heeler I researched GSPs and the like. I LOVED the German Wirehaired Pointers but I couldn't find one anywhere.

We ended up with a Vizsla. Very similar to a Wiem but a bit smaller, a bit faster, very similar in nature. That's what won out over the GSP, but it may have been a mistake. We were really bonded to our Heeler and I was worried the GSP wouldn't be as into us. The Vizsla is way, way too into us though. fricking animal HAS to be next to you, touching if possible, or its life is a wreck. Sweet dog though. It's about at an 11 on the clinginess scale, wish he was a 7 or so.

He loves the gulf coast though, when our beaches are open.

Shorthairs can be like this also when in the house. Not so much in the field...

Beautiful dog! I know my wiem was very much attached at the hip with me but calmed down later in life. Lots of memories with that dog. My wife wants the GSP to be an inside dog and go everywhere with us so there will be lots of training

Man. I want one just like the male with the green collar. If you have time I would like to get your opinions and feedback on the breed. Email or phone? All I have ever had were wiems.
