Do you go to the hunting camp solo?

I work shift work so I don't always go to the camp when everybody else is there.

When I do go alone I hear a lot of "be careful" and "you're going by yourself?"

I'm almost 40 years old, does anybody else out there get this or are my people just worried about me?

Oh yeah. I did get the tractor stuck today and had to dig it out and fight it for a little over 3 hours but, I made it out.

Going anywhere alone I get that. It's normal.

You just need to have a plan, make someone aware and stick to it. Also wear a harness if climbing.

Get a side piece so you won't be alone out there

I do. Mostly during the summer to cut grass, spray, etc. I bring my coonhound, so that may not count as alone

Hear the same thing all the time. Don't sweat it, just means folks are concerned. I agree with earlier poster to have a plan and just let someone know where you will be.

I do but I text my buddy when heading to the woods and when I'm back at the camp

Last thing I want to do is have to crawl out the woods with a broken leg cause nobody knows where I'm at

I wouldn't hesitate. Sure make a plan and all that, but the idea of being alone in the woods is just incredible to me. I like people and all but sometimes just me and peace quiet is awesome.

This exact thing happened to an older cousin of mine in N. Mississippi. He took so long getting back to the four-wheeler (he had to crawl up a steep hill with a compound fracture) gangrene set in and he had to have his leg amputated.

One of my co-workers went to his fishing camp on bell river in January of 2000 and died of asphyxia (kerosine heater). He had three other buddies that backed out on him at the last minute.

If it's below the knee he should be fine without it.

Somebody knows where I'm at for the most part.

Another thing....... We hunt on ~1100 acres. A few of us have been getting pics of a big black bear. My old man wants me to call the Wild Life & Fisheries.
For what? To tell them there is a bear in the woods. What would they do anyway?
I surely don't want them huntin a damn bear where I'll be bow hunting on opening day.

Does this sound crazy to anybody else?

All the time. By far my favorite place to go by myself.

My brother and I think it's funny.

But I really don't think they would do anything.

They'll do something if you tell them and it turns up dead.
