Do you disagree with "doe days" on private land?

Do you disagree that you can't shoot a doe unless it's on a doe day (which are all on weekends in my area) on private land?

I work most Saturdays and can't hunt most sundays because of family obligations. So most of my hunting is during days off during the week. I only desire to shoot one doe a year since the small amount of land that I hunt. Why should it matter if it's on a Friday at 5:00pm it's 12 hours later at 5:00am sat morning?
Sorry rant over!

Why not just limit the number of does that can be taken

That sucks. I hope they never go back to doe days where we hunt in north La. We were just talking about the same subject this weekend how hard it was to distinguish a buck from a doe running dogs back a few years ago. Of course, to the rednecks I was hunting with it didn't matter anyway.

I've heard of this but have never understood it.

I get not shooting does past a certain date, or after the rut etc, but what does it matter if I shoot a doe on a Tuesday if I could have shot it Saturday?

Makes no sense to me; it should be the overall number killed /survived that matters, not the day of the week.

Both places I hunt (AR and MS) does are legal most of the season on private land.

Or if you just shoot 3 the same day

A bunch of the rules make no sense to me.

No. I disagree with doe days period and especially on weekends only. That's absurd.

However, public vs private land doesn't make a difference. The deer herd is owned by the state/public, not by the land owners. So state deer regs should apply across the board, not just on public lands.

I should have added in my first post that I hunt area 4 in Louisiana.
The land has plenty of deer but to catch them moving during the daylight is tough. I would say I only see deer 1 out of 6 hunts. So when I do get the opportunity to take a deer I would like to no matter what day of the week it is.

Like they have a lot of days through the year designated as doe days, or do they have days where a doe is off limits.

First off, a doe should never be off limits until you reach the recommended number.

But if you're talking about designating doe killing days throughout the year, I think you can do a decent job of picking ways to do it that are easy and practical... One of the best things that I've seen is one camp on the MS River would take the Thanksgiving weekend and each day, they would pool their money... $20/hunter. Whoever brought in the heaviest doe of the day, got the pot. Easily 300-400 dollars a day on a holiday weekend... Basically it was a three day war on does with a prize each day. And, the best thing about it was that's still early, so it never interferes with the rut so nobody that was trophy hunting ever really got butt hurt about it.

I'm a bit older then most of you. So, this is my take that I been hunting deer for over 45 years and own my on place.

Many years ago, back in the early 1980's, myself and other big land owners had went to WL&F's to get doe days. We saw that our herd was dropping off as for as buck size. Back then, many 140+ bucks were taken each year, but we saw more and more smaller bucks. Back then, a 1 1/2 year old buck was a 4 pointer, as much as a 8 pointer which we started seeing spikes that was something one never saw before.

No Dmap back then. Fast forward 10 years, our herd went to shite. From there on to now, there are a lot of small land owners that think it is alright to do the brown and it is down. We tried to get LW&F in to shut doe season down all together. Just not going to happen. MONEY grab. Also now, more hunters and dam pigs has took it's toll.

So yes, I say that private land in my area should have NO doe days.

I agree fishfighter but only to a certain extent. Deer population can vary greatly within an area. Me and my cousin are the only ones who hunt this tract of land. We only take 3-4 deer a year total so we don't hurt the herd. My argument is is that what difference is it if I take my one doe that I want to shoot for the year on a Wednesday or a Saturday.

Doe days do more harm than good. Shitty weather on a couple weekends a year can frick up the herd

Well, one has tags. Back when I started deer hunting, one had tags. But, the problem of private land and more so of small land owners( not all), they shoot and don't use the tags. I know this for a fact.

We just need to prohibit adults from shooting any buck 2.5 years or younger. Then, regardless of doe regs, you will see more quality deer. The brown it's down thugs need to be stopped.

So you're an adult that revels at the thought of downing a spike? Shoot a doe if you want meat.

The switch back to doe days is bullshite. I heard one explanation was, hunters weren't tagging the deer they took, so LDWF needed to limit the amount of does shot. How true this is I don't know, but if true, that's complete chicken shite. The honest hunters now suffer for the assholes that are still going to break the law anyway.

I haven't shot a doe since my area went back to doe days.

The lease I'm currently in is no does, so you know what happens... It comes to the point where people want meat, so if it has horns it's down. IMO more little bucks would walk if each person could take one doe a year. I think I've had one trip this year where I didn't watch multiple does just hang out in the food plot for hours, and thats saying something for tangi.
