Do hydrofoils provide much help to smaller outboards?

By myself the boat performs fantastic. It's when I have an icechest, tackle and another person or 2 in the boat, getting on plane becomes a bit of a problem. Once it's up it runs fine though.

I have a 4 stroke 30 hp motor and have a bit of trouble when I'm planing off when I'm loaded down, will a hydrofoil help my midrange performance?

Appreciate the link. I'm in a flat bottom and it seems like it will give me some things I'm complaining about. Losing a little top end isn't so bad, my boat already does 37 with just me in it. A mile or 2 per hour won't be missed if I get better overall performance.

I was under the impression that hydrofoils effectively add a downforce similar to more weight on the bow. Seems like you could just load you boat a bit better to keep the weight up there.

I had a Whale Tail on my 16ft ski boat with a 115 since it was a closed bow. It helped plane the boat and to some extent keep it from cavitating. when I was out running it fast.

To me you seem to be a bit light in the arse on torque, so a pitching up on a prop may be money better spent. Just a thought though.

My bow stays down, I have Optima batteries in the front and keep my icechest in the front. The problem is just planing because once I get up it runs like normal it's just lacking in lifting out the water. I'm running a 10x11 prop, and it's getting me to about 6100-6200 rpms which is what the manufacturer told me I should have the motor running in at full throttle.

One more question about it, anyone use the non tapping mount or should I just tap holes and mount it that way?

Must be one small boat to get that much speed out of a 30HP motor.

Whale tales are a band aid fix to a bigger problem.

15 ft aluminum boat. It's narrow and lightweight.

As it gets weight though, it loses the top speed, lol.

Not as bad as you think. When we go frogging we take 4 people but there isn't much equipment. It's generally 3 people who know what the hell they are doing and we take turns on who's tackle box we're bringing. I have to put a rod and reel limit on my buddies though

I've got a 12' w/ a 9.9hp on it that just barely doesn't want to get on plane with 2 people in it. Do you think a hydrofoil will help me there? With one person and gear, it planes out and does 15-20mph, but with 2 and gear it just won't get on top.
