Update: Table construction complete! Do big box stores carry kiln dried wood?
Posted by BoogaBear on 7/28/15 at 3:16 pm10
Looking to build a farmhouse table in the next couple of weeks. Do your Lowes/Home Depot's carry kiln dried wood required for building a table?
What I'm building

Kiln dried pine
I know for sure that Lowe's on Millerville in BR carries Kiln dried southern pine. Look for the KD stamp on the wood. We buy bundles of it for international shipping quite often.

That table top looks like it's made with 8/4 thick wood (8/4 is 2" thick). You won't find that at the box stores.
Service Lumber or Cajun Cypress in Baker will have the wood you'd be looking for.

Basically all dimensional lumber is kiln dried. So if you go to buy a 2x4, 1x4, etc. and so on, it will be kiln dried.
It's not. That top is made with off the shelf 2 bys (2" x 6", 2" x 8" or 2" x 10"). It looks like 8/4, but it is not. No planing done on those tops so you just pick the best 2" bys and glue them up (with biscuits or pocket holes).
Also, the Lowes on Millerville is the only place in town that I know of where you can buy untreated 4" x 4" posts.

So they should carry what I need to build this?

Yeah. You may have to call on the 4x4's. The Lowe's by Cortana is where I usually go and I don't think they carry them. But I believe Home Depot does and someone on here said the Lowes on Millerville carries them.

The wife's current favorite is espresso, she will change her mind 7 more times.
Damn I would have loved some of those bar clamps when slapping it all together. Wasn't about to pay 80 bucks for 2 clamps though

I'm getting into woodworking and the wife wants a table like that. I recently invested in some tools (10" mitre saw, compressor with tools, jig saw, reciprocating saw, cordless impact driver and drill/driver) but am trying to decide if I need anything else to round out the shed (already have circular saw and orbital sander, hoping to wait on table saw). I have some previous woodworking experience, but never had my own tools.
ETA: Never mind on the plans - found them on Ana White website.

Kreg jig is handy especially for that table. Also wood glue. Lots of wood glue. I haven't used my table saw in 6 months, always use the miter saw. Also, get you a square and clamps.
