I prefer ones that clip onto the BC hose.

Honestly, you typically won't need them all that often. What are you going to be doing?

As for the knife, if you're going to be using it a lot, here are some recommendations:

Very cool. I'd say for that get a BC hose. Typically more accessible, IMO.

Get a knife with a sharp point. You might need it...

I used a 5 inch akona strapped on my calf. This was up to two weeks ago when I was stabbing a red snapper in the head and he knocked it out my hand. Now the gulf owns it haha.

Yes put it on your bc hose. That way when you go to sheath it and it tears a hole in the hose you will lose all function from the bc, have to ditch gear, and ascend. I'll stick to the calf.

A knife is a knife. With the diving I do, I lose a lot of knives. I'm sure Hat has lost quite a bit too haha. I've had them all and to be honest, can't tell the difference!

Just make sure you get one that has good reviews of not rusting out quickly. Other than that, yes I think so. I used a 40 dollar knife for over a year in the gulf and it performed great. I loved my akona knife, so would recommend them for sure.

What I just ordered. Like I said though I lose knives spearing so we could be on two who different levels of price haha
