Recently purchased a 2015 F250. First words out of everyone's mouths are that I need the EGR deletes, etc. etc.

This is my first diesel. I called Coy's in Gonzales and they want $5k for the EGR delete, new pipe, new tunes, some new pump plus labor. Everything I've read is that I should be able to do what's needed for around $2k at most.

What's needed and what are the things that I can go without? Just looking to take the environmental shackles off that kill these engines. Unless Coy's is just high and i can get the same for a better price somewhere else

Are you currently having issues with your truck?

How many miles are on your truck?

If your truck is running well, leave it alone that would be my advice.

The current diesels are actually running pretty damn well, they have figured out the emissions regulations.

Coys is sky high. Call 667-4111. They're in Walker and do great diesel work for a very reasonable price.

That is way to expensive

You could do all of this yourself for roughly $1600

I personally do not recommend it on a truck that new. It's downright dumb to do it on a truck that is still under powertrain warranty. A fuel system replacement on that truck is north of $8k and they will laugh you out of the dealership if you show up with a deleted truck asking for warranty on a power window motor, much less the high pressure fuel system.

coy did all the work on my 2014 f250 and was stellar.

the 15's have a GREAT pump and adding another is likely why that price is so high, it's 2300 by it's self and install takes more hours.

delete, pipe, intake is less than a grand

tunes through ezlynk will cost you 1400

so if you don't want to spend 5k dont get another pump and go with the cheaper SCT tuner.

Edit: for spell check

I'm curious exactly what pump they were talking about needing replacing? And $5k is high as giraffe arse.

I have a 2012 6.7, my DEF sending unit threw a code and was going out at around 80,000 miles. The dealership wanted $875 to replace it so instead I pulled the trigger on the delete, you can do it and be budget friendly. I did a X3 tuner, delete pipe(cheaper than a full system), and the H&S cold side intake pipe(the factory ones are plastic and tend to spontaneously explode, I busted my first one while stock at 40k miles). I installed everything myself and it ended up running around $1200 total. So far I've put about 3000 miles on the truck with no issues, and a 2-3 mpg gain. It should also be noted that I don't care about making the truck faster, just wanted to not have all that emissions stuff, plus gain a little mpg.

Eventually I will add an intake setup and completely delete the EGR system once the truck passes 100k miles.

I forgot what she called it, but said that the stock wouldn't be able to keep up.

But then again

so maybe she was replacing it thinking i needed a race tune or some shite

nah, over the phone, which i knew probably didn't help.

Don't get me wrong, i've heard nothing but good reviews when it comes to Coy's, especially when it comes to their work.

yeah get the quote sheet and you'll see the details.

i'd venture to guess she misunderstood you and put second/duel fueler on there.

they also recommend ezlynk, do your research on that tuning platform it's state of the art (i.e pricey)

Obviously I'm a big Coy's homer, and they have worked with me on requests and finding cheaper options. They have them, just ask.

Yea if OP wants to sell me his 15 pump and turbo on the cheap I call dibs.

Sounds to me she was wanting to sell you some race package or something, you don't need all of that.

Seriously though, if all you intend to do is just get rid of the emissions stuff I'd do a tuner, just a standard delete pipe(replaces just the big spaceship, not a full system. Runs ~$200) and the cold side pipe replacement just to be safe. With basic hand tools and enough swearing to make a sailor blush I had all that crap installed in about 5 hours.

ETA: I dealt with Clay with VooDoo Diesel, hes in Baton Rouge. 225-800-7150. He was pretty helpful and answer any and all dumb questions I had.

After I cross the 100k miles mark I'm doing the intake, EGR delete, and removing the urea tank off the truck. For now I left it.

If I were doing this, the EGR delete would be one of the main things I'd want to do. EGR coolers are a huge liability and they're about the only thing on the truck that the manufactures still haven't quite 100% got right yet. If you heat cycle your engine a bunch (frequent hard acceleration, start/stop during regen, etc) it's just a matter of when it will fail, not if.

This is going to be a stupid question, but someone suggested Sinister brand. Now, I know everyone has their own brands that they like, but let's say i buy a package online...how do i go about getting it installed? I don't want to do it myself, but I'm assuming somewhere like Voodoo or Coy's would decline to do so being it may not be something they sell.

You'll save 10-15% on parts ordering them yourself, but if you're going to pay somebody to install them buy the parts from them. It will almost always yield a better experience.

If you do need to buy the parts yourself or find a hell of a deal somewhere or something, I would definitely have them installed somewhere that sells and installs that system. I doubt anybody would decline doing the work since they still make good money on labor and almost everybody wants one more customer, but you want it to be somebody familiar with it otherwise you'll pay for the extra time it takes them to figure it out if they need to.

Agreed.

sinister is ok if you have a diesel tech buddy to help you do it. It's doable.

I liked no limit before i found Coy, they just have great stuff.

also Absolute Performance is 99% of what no limit is :)

Perhaps I was told wrong but I was told that with the delete/tune I'm ok to leave the EGR alone for now as it's basically been shut off with the tune? I did plan to delete it but I was under the impression it wasn't a "must do" right away thing.
